This reminded me of my first booked show. Not a pool hall, but it was a bar and there were two pool tables between me and the crowd. It was a Raiders fan club meeting. A bunch of middle aged people. No stage and barely a PA system. I was 21 but I looked really young. As soon as I got the mic, a lady yelled "CURFEW!" and my new comedian ass couldn't handle it. I just kind of chuckled and tried to start my jokes. Bombed sooooooooooo hard. Maybe a few laughs throughout the set. Then I had to drive an hour and a half home, and it was a free booking so I didn't even get paid. That's the comedy life, for the most part.pool halls dont hold alot of people i dont think
Comedy is terrifying. I give props to anybody who tries, as long as they are realistic with themselves.I like to bash Brenden as much as the next guy. I was a huge fan of TFATK in the beginning, but I no longer listen. The bigger it got, the more Brenden drove me nuts. I have stated several times that he rode the coat tails of his famous friends. I still maintain that most of the dudes from the place could take his place in the podcast tomorrow and be just as funny. As the podcast grew it just became him and Brian jerking each other off all the time. The funny parts became few and far between, in my opinion. That said, I haven't heard his standup. They say he puts a lot of time in it. It's kind of hard for me to imagine that he is really funny beyond his stories of fighting, but time will tell. He clearly has a lot of podcast fans coming to his shows, but if he continues to put in the time he may become a legit headliner comedian at some point. I think what he does on the podcast is easy peasy, but I wouldn't have the balls to try standup. He may have gotten his fame from riding the coat tails of others, but he is making the most of the opportunity.
Doing shows in phone booths, is he?He's sold out every show he's booked. Just got back from a tour in Australia. Gonna be on Comedy Central in October.
Literally none, sorry! That's surprising. How about Hedberg?
wow pony is horribleLiterally none, sorry!
Even tried Kevin Hart's latest on Netflix and it just wasn't funny. It's such different humour.
Strangely though I quite like the roasts which Tony Hinchcliffe writes
Ha! I watched his latest and was cringing.wow pony is horrible
I don't watch current standup...I find scripted jokes unsatisfyingHa! I watched his latest and was cringing.
Enjoyed the last bit about Cosby but that's all.
I'm sure though if Americans watched Rhod Gilbert (one of my all time favourites) you would hate it...

It's less scripted now than it used to be. Back in the day, comics toured the same jokes for nearly their whole careers.I don't watch current standup...I find scripted jokes unsatisfying
I like off the cuff comedy/reactions personally....some call it wit
It's funny- I've heard a bunch of people (not saying you're doing this) say things like "Tony Hinchcliffe writes the roasts", but it's really a BUNCH of guys who write the jokes for the non-comedians on the dais.Literally none, sorry!

Ya, but I really can tell when they have used the same premise/though/joke a bunch. It's less scripted now than it used to be. Back in the day, comics toured the same jokes for nearly their whole careers.
I like crowd work, but I get why some comics don't.Ya, but I really can tell when they have used the same premise/though/joke a bunch.
I have great skill and training in reading people and that is why I prefer instinctual wit over rehearsed bits.
I do love a good crowd work comedian...I realize comics don't always appreciate crowd work guys
ya he is quick and funnyI like crowd work, but I get why some comics don't.
Chris D'elia is by far the best I've seen at crowd work. It sucks, because he does all of his specials in theaters instead of clubs, which does kind of a disservice to his strengths. Nobody wants to follow that guy in a club, but his specials on Netflix don't really capture why.
