Ricky Gervais is probably my favorite comedy TV actor of all time.

"I think there's been a rape up there" (a scene in The Office UK) is the pinnacle of comedy for me. I actually had to pause the DVD I was watching at the time because I was laughing so hard.
Have you watched extras? If not, enjoy.

My wife and I went to a live TFATK show, she's a fan. They started to show out with about 15 minutes of Shaub alone doing stand-up. I wanted to hate on it but he did pretty good. There were maybe 500 people in the audience and he seemed really comfortable up there. I guess it was something like his 3rd or 4th time doing stand-up. I have seen some headliners do worse than him.

Stop. Anyone with taste knows that Bill Burr is a terribly unfunny tryhard comedian.
This is a ridiculous statement. Even the comics love Bill Burr, and comics HATE watching other comics. His most recent specials haven't been as solid as his earlier ones, but that's how it works. You have 15 years to write your first special, and 1 year to write your second. These absolute opinions about comedy are weird. It's like everybody is Skip Bayless.

You're still presenting the only two options as complimenting Schaub and shitting on him though.

Comics will not compliment a bad comic to get closer to a big name. It doesn't work like that. You are right that shitting on him would probably keep you off of JRE which is partially why we haven't heard much of it. I'm sure a bunch of guys shit on him. Comedy is fucking hard and I'm sure it's annoying to see a new guy get all of this shine.
totally agree except I do not believe in absolutes^^^. I am sure this occurs

Props to brandon shaub....the dude is doing well and I even listen to an occasional episode of his pomcasts. I do not think I possess the stanima to sit thru a one man show of his but I can't hate on a playa.

That's a tall order......
Watch Ricky gervais on the golden globes.....he is actually funny as shit......and he wrote a bunch of shows that were hilarious......"extras" has some hilarious episodes.
Gervais is really funny. Eddie Izzard has made me laugh before but I haven't heard all of his stuff. Same with Jimmy Carr. My favorite European comic might be Tommy Tiernan from Ireland, though.

You're right about the absolute. I should have said "typically" or "generally".

Haha Burr is not a shock comedian. It's weird to see him put in that category. That's more like Jim Norton (who I love on the radio and podcasts but I'm not crazy about his stand-up) Stanhope and Jeselnik to a certain extent. Burr's bit about slaves and Jimmy the Greek is one of my favorite bits of all time.

What about Chappelle, Louis, Stanhope, Burr (especially his earlier stuff), Jeselnik, Kyle Kinane, Hannibal Burress.... Have you heard any of those?
Chappelle is probably my #1 but Jeselnik has the best deliveries ever. Guys so unpredictable and doesn't rely on cussing or shock humour for a chuckle.

Jeselnik has quite a bit of shock humor, but I do enjoy him a lot.

Chappelle is one of the GOATs in my eyes. His stand up is about as good as it gets, and I think Chappelle's Show was the funniest sketch comedy show ever.

I can see how shock humour may be how some would describe it. I'd probably go with wtf style lol.

By shock I mean with certain non PC jokes and lots of body language, swearing and yelling, so whatever genre that is.

Oh, I get you. Yeah Jeselnik says he writes by thinking of average, every day situations and asking himself "how can I make this as terrible as possible?" Haha

Great call on the final 3, a lot of people still don't know those guys and all 3 are straight killers
Jeselnik especially should be a star

Chappelle show is still my favorite show ever
I got the chance to see Dave in Toronto, some kid left his phone on and got a call, Dave gets the phone and does an entire bit directly to the guy on the other end of the phone lol
Was genius

Jeselnik has shock humour but he doesn't rely on shock humour which really sets him apart

Haha that sounds like Chappelle. Nowadays he sometimes makes every attendee turn their phone in at the door.

I completely agree regarding Jeselnik. Being shocking and offensive is harder to do than most people think, if you want to do it with integrity. He does it perfectly.

Thankfully, he's gotten some great opportunities. He's brilliant.

Kinane's "Death of the Party" and Hannibal's "My Name is Hannibal" are two of my favorite albums right now.

Any Brian Regan fans in here? I think he's as funny as they come. You have to be in a silly mood though.
