It cuts off the Mediterranean fleet from joining in as well as new naval supply lines. Russia has no ship building capacities in the Black Sea right now so you basically “trap them in a giant bath tub” in the words of some retired general I saw on TV. Limits the potency, longevity and effectiveness of the naval troops already deployed there.

I can’t recall which agreement stipulates the details but, and don’t quote me here, they can block access to all ships EXCEPT ones who official status is stationed currently in the Black Sea. Another thing is days ago this was considered by Turkey a “military op” and now they recognize it as “war”.

The Russian Mediterranean Fleet is based out of Tartus, Syria and Sevastopol, so whatever isn't already in the Black Sea (at Sevastopol) isn't coming in now. That's good news, and one more NATO nation Russia will have to dodge to continue the war.
