@Lars I'm listening to chapter 1 of the man without a face .I didn't know Masha was going to narrate the audiobook. The ego on this woman person.
I doubt I will finish this book solely because of her narration.

That’s awesome. I’ve never listened to an audiobook in my life so I don’t know who usually narrates them, but their voice is not appealing as a narrator at all, lol.

What about the Red Cross saying the road russia told them to use was mined? Do you trust them?
Yes, butI will only agree that the Red Cross, being a respected NGO, is right about this when you agree that Amnesty International, also being a respected NGO, is right about Israel.

I rarely get involved in the Izzy stuff on here, bruv.

I've dipped my toes into the shit-water a couple of times but usually have the sense to steer clear.

I just wanted to turn you against the Red Cross on top of Amnesty.

I looked it up and it's difficult to tell with a translation of Japanese to English. The prime minister condemned Russian occupation of the island stating that they were original territories of Japan. But that isn't clear to me that they are claiming them as current sovereign territories. I mean the implication might be there, but I think going that extra step through translator on Google is probably too much.

They have never ceded that the Russians own them, it's been disputed since the Russians took them at the end of WW2.
In all of these skirmishes I find it interesting that occasionally somebody brings up that any deals made were with the Soviet Union which no longer exists and that Russia shouldn't have claims to everything the Soviet Union had claims to. It sounds a little ridiculous at first and then I start thinking about how we don't honor claims for Rhodesia or chopped up pieces of the ottoman empire. I'm not sure there's a good argument either direction, but in my American mindset Soviet Union always meant Russia so I never really considered the nuance of territorial claims. Maybe it's just bureaucratic lawyer speak.

From this article:

" The San Francisco Peace Treaty, signed between the Allies and Japan in 1951, states that Japan must give up "all right, title and claim to the Kuril Islands", but it also does not recognize the Soviet Union's sovereignty over them. Japan claims that at least some of the disputed islands are not a part of the Kuril Islands, and thus are not covered by the treaty. Russia maintains that the Soviet Union's sovereignty over the islands was recognized in post-war agreements. Japan and the Soviet Union ended their formal state of war with the Soviet–Japanese Joint Declaration of 1956 but did not sign a peace treaty. During talks leading to the joint declaration, the Soviet Union offered Japan the two smaller islands of Shikotan and the Habomai Islands in exchange for Japan renouncing all claims to the two bigger islands of Iturup and Kunashir, but Japan refused the offer. This disagreement between the two-island offer made by the Soviet Union and Japan's demand of regaining two bigger islands as well became the cornerstone for continuation of the dispute into the present day."
