Did you stain/seal those cabinets or leave em raw wood?if the cabinet boxes are still decent you could just reface them for a lot less work and a little cheaper then new

If you do decide to rip them out and are looking for a inexpensive rustic option look at the Denver collection at Lowes, it's what we put in the cabin and if all you are doing is that wall it shouldn't cost you a lot, I think our kitchen layout is a little longer but we paid under 2000
The lazy susan, corner cabinet and pantry were the most expensive pieces, we were just over 400 for the pantry alone but you wouldn't need those for that stretch

SirWe would end up in a cook off and try to outdrink each other on bud light, he would be so embarrassed he would never post again. I can outdrink a 3 foot amexican any day.
It's not raw wood, they are finished like that, come pre assembled as well, you don't have to do a thing to them.Did you stain/seal those cabinets or leave em raw wood?
I'm looking at the Project Source line at Lowes. Slightly less rustic. Seem relatively affordable. Can probably bring em in under a grand.
Ever use Waterlox?
Fine, coors lite it isSir
you cannot have a drink off with bud light
that only leads to hydration and urination
they both taste like metal and only make you peeFine, coors lite it is
No, I figured 3 coats of oil poly would be better in the sink area, my understanding is waterlox is moisture resistant, not waterproof, aint no water getting through 3 coats of poly.Waterlox
He's an amexican, he thinks chimichangas are his national heritage. I start bringing out mexican lagers, he will look at me and saythey both taste like metal and only make you pee
gotta be at least a Mexican lager because somehow they don't taste like metal

Dude..... cabinets were crumbling in my hands, so shot. As was the paper thin "drywall" behind them. How did the tear out go?
Breath, it will be okay. I've been there, just one room at a time. Took my wife and I 3 years with our first 100year old home. Just rip the bandaid off in the kitchen and see what is behind the wall.Dude..... cabinets were crumbling in my hands, so shot. As was the paper thin "drywall" behind them.
I'm uncovering one of the worst & budget "renovations" I've ever faced.
They used a variety of fasteners on this. Lag bolts, nails you'd use to frame timbers.
They put the cabinets straight on the 1959 wallpaper, then mudded and textured around them. It's like a 1/4 inch deep cavity where I pulled each one.
Plus a couple holes where I was prying out the GIANT fucking nails.
Even the couple of actual cabinet screws were so set in there I had to use an oscillating tool to cut around em enough to get small channel locks on the heads to back em out.
Theres a bizarre outlet I've never even seen before that looks like it's from the Eisenhower administration that powered the not working range, via punching a hole through another cabinet to access.
I can't begin to describe the state of the wall. Remember that super thin "drywall" they used to sell for a quick reface? Shit is ancient and crumbling.
I didn't even have the heart yesterday to look In the holes I made...
Remember what I said about old houses, 1 simple project becomes 3 infrastructure critical problems before you can keep going on the original "problem"?
I'm thinking I'm going to have to re sheet that whole wall and I'm going to need an actual electrician to make what I find in there safe. What I've seen so far legit scares me.
I only got about half the tear out done because it was taking forever and eventually the kitchen got full between all that shit and my tools. Didn't want to huck it outside just to get buried in snow and have to dig out later.
Didn't bring my dump trailer cause it's snowed in and wouldn't have mattered anyway cause Sunday and dump is closed. Closed today too (holiday) so it would have been a frozen nightmare.
Tomorrow I dig my dump trailer out and head down there, empty out all the busted cabs and range, and finish tear out.
I'm in it now, this is going to be alot more involved than I was hoping.
Shockingly the subfloor is ok so far, but I haven't ripped out the sink cab yet.
Who knows what fresh hell lies beneath.
FRAT- I'll probably be using my Coleman and crockpot to be cooking for the foreseeable future while I figure this shit out. Its not gonna go fast unless I pay pro's and that's not in the budget.
I was so dejected I couldn't even take pics. I will though.

Yeah, not my first rodeo. My first place was a 117yo shotgun Victorian in Leadville.Breath, it will be okay. I've been there, just one room at a time. Took my wife and I 3 years with our first 100year old home. Just rip the bandaid off in the kitchen and see what is behind the wall.
