I don't think anyone thinks Nate can beat Woodley. I would guess an interim title at 155 first. Or else Nate's retiring for a couple years, and he'll come back out when Conor's ready to make some money with him for their trilogy.Nate Diaz vs Tyron Woodley is my guess. The same collection of empty suits who created the women's 145 division out of thin air because they thought it would make Ronda a 2-division champ after she ran through 'cannon fodder' Amanda Nunes are behind it.
They want Nate vs Conor 3 for the welterweight belt, forgetting that the one minor glitch is that Woodley will skullfuck Nate into Bolivia.
Nobody serious thinks Nate can beat Woodley. But nobody serious runs the UFC these days.I don't think anyone thinks Nate can beat Woodley. I would guess an interim title at 155 first. I didn't even think of that. I do not believe they have talked since then, at least publicly. Can't wait for Nate to say something funny about Ariel's PPV. Have they talked since then?
I completely disagree with why you think they made 145. They had no reason to believe Ronda could do that, even with their delusions. They did it to finally make some money off of Cyborg, and to put pressure on her to take a fight, in my opinion. Then, Cyborg immediately popped so they had to go with Holly vs GDR in the interim. The same collection of empty suits who created the women's 145 division out of thin air because they thought it would make Ronda a 2-division champ after she ran through 'cannon fodder' Amanda Nunes are behind it.
If this is a fight announcement, I would guess that it's Ferguson or some out of left field claim that he either fights Conor or has a boxing match himself.I don't think anyone thinks Nate can beat Woodley. Why did they have to make a nonsense fight without Cyborg while claiming that she was the entire reason for the existence of the division? That argument makes absolutely no logical sense - the existence of the division is proof that she was not the only reason for its existence. So we need to look at why their was an urgent need to create the division regardless if it contradicted their stated reasons for creating it.I completely disagree with why you think they made 145. Not a bad breakdown. I personally was, and still am, under the impression that they made the Holly-GDR fight to let Cyborg know that the division would move on without her. The UFC is not above that, as you know. Of course a Ronda fight was in the works, I just do not believe that they literally made the 145 belt because they thought Ronda was going to be a two division champ. They may have done it with a Ronda fight in mind, but that would have just been based on the fact that her two biggest money making opportunities out there are Holly and Cyborg. I do not believe that a guy like Dana, as nefarious as he is, is stupid enough to assume that Ronda was going to roll on Amanda and go up and win against Holly or Cyborg. That was my contention, though I could have been more clear. Why did they have to make a nonsense fight without Cyborg while claiming that she was the entire reason for the existence of the division? Holm's camp were talking about a Ronda rematch for the 145 belt, despite admitting to turning down a fight with Cyborg at 145, before either fight had taken place. Winklejohn claims Dana would love it. And he did...

The UFC publicly stated that they wanted the Ronda-Holm rematch for the 145 belt before either fight had taken place.
So they are going to create a division under bizarre circumstances, explain its existence in a manner that contradicts itself, and then simultaneously publicly talk about a fight they want to make that would actualy explain its existence, yet these two things are unrelated?
I don't think Dana was dumb enough to think everything would just work out, but the 'cannon fodder' quote relayed by Rogan and the promotion of Nunes shows that people at WME were. For Dana, I think it was more planning for the best case and failing to recognize the problems that could arise in trying to get there. He didn't qualify his statement by saying 'listen, this kid Nunes is a beast and I'm not playing matchmaker' or the like as he normally would, even if it was just lip service, instead he spoke about 'missing the bus' in relation to Holm-Ronda. In his mind, if he doesn't get that Holm-Ronda rematch under the best circumstances, he has fucked up. He didn't realize that he could majorly fuck up trying to catch that bus too.Not a bad breakdown. What circumstances is he talking about?LOL this shit is awesome! Nate says he accepted the Ferguson fight, but rejected later cuz of the circumstances. He came to realization he's doing Conor and Ferguson a favor.
Nate is focused on the race (triathlon). He's down to fight if it was not during the race season.
I can totally see your idea there. One issue for me is that if Ronda would have beat Amanda and the Cyborg-Holm fight worked out where Cyborg ended up with the 145 title, I don't think that Ronda would have agreed to fight Cyborg, and I am not sure the UFC assumed she would either. They had Cris sitting around and she wasn't going to make them much money with catchweight fights, so I do believe that Cyborg had a big hand in them creating the division, Ronda or not. It was likely a mixture of the two.I don't think Dana was dumb enough to think everything would just work out, but the 'cannon fodder' quote relayed by Rogan and the promotion of Nunes shows that people at WME were. Holm was on a 2-fight skid and that factors in. My guess why it was important, in their minds, to create the 145 belt is that A. If both Holly and Ronda win, it's the best result, because they have champ vs champ and it is much bigger than Holm vs Rousey at 135 with Holly on a 2-fight skid and B. If Holm loses, they still have Ronda doing a McGregor and going for her 2nd belt, rather than just taking on another contender at 135 (or retiring).
What seems obvious to me though is that whether or not they just wanted to do Cyborg v Holm first and have Ronda fight the winner, or shoot for an even better case which is to have Ronda first fight Holm, and then in a dream scenario get Ronda Cyborg as well, their thinking around the 145 belt always included Ronda and not its future viability.
I think it was monetary. He didn't specify. What circumstances is he talking about?
probably money issue. What circumstances is he talking about?
