Same.
Entered the work force after a couple years of college to pay for tuition. Never went back.

Now I'm hiring for jobs that require a degree that I don't have. That irony isn't lost on me and I go to bat for an otherwise qualified applicant on the regular.

For many professions, college is a scam.
The students need to see that, and so do corporations.
That college degree means you wont have to work as hard as someone without a degree or even get promotions folks without a degree can't get because it requires a degree in my job they promoted folks to the office because they had degrees even tho more deserving folks had been in the field longer and were more qualified for a promotion but those folks didn't go to college.

It could have also been down to their “network” of friends who promote based on old school relationships
It’s not what you know, it’s who you know

Well you network in college usually but a lot of jobs require a college degree doesn't matter how good of a worker you are a person with a college degree will always be promoted to higher less labor intensive positions over someone who doesnt.

That's part of the scam.
Corporations are playing along. I try to fight that trend.

If the job requires skills you can only get from continued education, cool.
Otherwise, it's just a very expensive piece of paper that means fuck all.
