Get @Splinty to give you some details on what kind of malpractice insurance he needs to carry and for how long he can be held liable for a child that he delivers.
So malpractice insurance rates for doctors are why so many Americans don't have health insurance?

Not directly. It's just another thing that causes costs to go up and care to go down in many instances. Costs going up means insurance companies either charge more or make coverage less inclusive.

I was merely pointing out one in the hundreds of reasons why the US healthcare system is broken.

why don't you just expand medicaid to everyone?
First cost, second ask most health care professionals how they enjoy dealing with Medicaid (at least in my experience in the dental field it's a nightmare and the overwhelming majority of doctors don't accept it) and then wait lists, every country we see where this is implemented there are loads of patients that die waiting to receive the care they need. In our own country look at the v.a.

I've never heard of a single person who died waiting for urgent care here unless it was an organ transplant maybe... can you give me a source with numbers of people in these countries who die each year

And of course there will be fuck ups where some one is misdiagnosed or even forgotten about in an ER but I'm talking about systemic wait times killIng people

Because I already pay 30% of my income the federal government as it is. If we were a little more efficient with our spending, I'd be 100% on board with that idea.
