Going over to see a buddies new cabin this weekend.. Cabin on a small island, no frills. Electricity and a small water tank, compostable toilet, pack off all garbage.

Anyone have any suggestions for a must have tool/accessory/toy gift for the cabin?

If we have a good time, we might consider buying a lot or cabin over there.
Hatchet for wood choppin.
Slip-on muck boots just in case it gets muddy
Pocket knife
Bug spray

Have fun bro. Sounds awesome.

Another dead ash tree. Decent size. Might mill this one into some timber and build something to post in the woodworking thread.

Maybe 45' tall
Diameter at base is about 24".
No match for a Stihl.

Don't like cutting down dead ones - although this one looks pretty safe.

Extrapolate the height so it ain't a fuckin maybe, grandpa. I'm not going to explain how to do it because you already know. Stop being lazy.

View attachment 39923Went out to the coast to beat the Portland heat and scored. Water was around 60*F.
That’s pretty chilly…

there’s a local spring here with a big public pool area that flows around 65-68 degrees year round. Feels amazing when it’s over 100 in the summer. Very invigorating and therapeutic. People also swim there in winter when the air temp is colder than the spring.

There are a lot of springs in centra/northern Florida and I always thought they were cold as fuck. It turns out they're only around 70°F. I couldn't even imagine 60°F without a wetsuit.

Yeah man, no kidding. The one I was talking about here is just a little colder than what you’re talking about and it’s pretty cold. The first 10 seconds are a shock but then you get used to it and it’s awesome. It’s pretty crowded these days but we used to go jump in after long mountain bike rides. It was awesome cold therapy, would feel great after.

60 is still pretty chilly, but it’s not that bad. Especially when you’re moving around a lot.

When we’d hit the cold water spring after bike rides, we’d go in with two cans of beer. As you slam the first one it gets you past the cold shock, and then you adjust and enjoy the second one ?

it really only takes a minute to adjust, but you just got to get it over with!

I was way off.
24 paces. So roughly 72'.

I measured the trunk too.

73-3/8" circumference.
So a diameter of about 23-3/8"

I was pretty close on that one. Big tree.
