Came home from Arizona to find my plum tree blown over in the front yard. I saved some for lumber, but this is the last of it.

I usually don't burn the stumps because they can be a pain in the ass with all the mud, but fuck it.

Plum wood is good for smoking (food prep) and wood working. I saved some for both.

It was a living tree, so I'm guessing I'll need to let it dry a year or two. I'll machine it down to 1" planks next week.

I'm chilling by the fire and there's 2 pileated woodpeckers calling like crazy right now. One in the front yard. One off in the back.

They're going to have so much sex tonight but I wish these noisy fucks would get on with it. I feel like walking out to the male and having a sit down. "Bro. She's into you. Go get them feathers you prehistoric-looking motherfucker."

Alaskan mill attachment for my stihl. Clumsy, but it works.

I have a resaw blade for my bandsaw, but I probably won't have the clearance for these logs.
I'd like to see that if you get a chance.
I had about 50 cedars fall this winter.
Also have a large oak I need to mill & many other trees.
ShatsBassoon @ShatsBassoon had a pro rig that looked nice.
I'm in learning mode with not much but a few cheap chainsaws, table saw, & power tools.

Cool house buddy
Thanks man. I'm getting there. Total gut remodel. Down to the studs.

Sitting in the same place as that other pic by the fire, this is the side yard looking towards the front of the house.

Love the solitude out here.

ShatsBassoon @ShatsBassoon rig is likely way better that mine. I just bolt it to a chainsaw and give it hell. Like I said - clumsy - but it works.

I've thought about getting a tow-behind woodmizer, but haven't pulled the trigger. While fun, I don't know that it would be worth the investment.

Would be worth it if you went around milling stuff for people in your area and taking half of the finished product or something like that.
Would pay for itself.

Rolling hills. My house is on a ridge. Centered on 12 acres. To walk to the nearest neighbor would take me about 15 minutes. Or if there is a bonfire going on with beers and tunes - 2 minutes by quad.

While distant - the folks out this way are very cool.

Mine is just a rudimentary alaskan sawmill. Clamps to the bar and away you go. First cut is the most important, every other pass follows the previous cut.
Sharp chain and and powerful saw are key.

Wouldn't recommend milling with a cheap chainsaw! Need power for big passes, especially oak. Expect to swap out chains every couple passes.

Milling with a chainsaw is may seem intimidating, but it's rather easy. My mill attachment is average at best but works great. If you have the money, get a grandberg setup, they are the Cadillacs of chainsaw mills.

I'm pretty good at identifying birds by their call, but occasionally I'll hear one I don't recognize.

I recently found an app called Merlin. It detects in real time when it recognizes a bird's call. It's incredibly accurate.

I went on my back porch just now and recorded for about a minute. When it hears a bird, it pops up the name. If it hears that call again, it highlights as it hears it.

Very cool.

Only nerds and virgins spend time outside.

Some of y'all need a functioning PC and it shows.

Outdoors ? LOL

I'm in my mom's basement 24/7 with blasting a/c, a cool beer, and any virtual reality that I want.

I live like a king with more options to porn than my entire ancestors combined.

Again LOL at you guys going outside

Get on my level Virgins

I was walking a property today and came across this unreal plant. I've never seen one before and apparently they are quite rare, so much so that a botanical garden in the county apparently had an event focusing on their rare bloom a few years back. It's called saffire tower (Puya alpestris), and it's a bromeliad related to the pineapple. The colors are crazy, kind of like a peacock.
