I know a bunch of people trying to be teachers who can't get work because the ones with seniority won't retire. To be honest, your post of the first I've ever heard of the idea of there being a teacher shortage.

I know multiple teachers, and not a single one of them gets a month-long holiday just because their students do. Also, they all work a ton of extra hours during the school year. Marking homework, making lesson plans, dealing with parent's bullshit, school events outside regular hours, it never ends.

The only teacher I know who gets an actual long holiday that I'm jealous of, is a stats professor at university. But he also pulls a month of 60-70 hour weeks a couple of times a year during exam time.

Yes, everybody goes on vacations. That is not the same as every time your students are on holiday, that means that you're on holiday too.

I work for a school district and have about a dozen friends that are married to teachers. Thanks for letting me know how teachers are in California. Maybe your teachers care.
It’s also much longer than a month. Did you see the calendar I posted? That is a real work calendar for the teachers on my district.

Outside of dealing with parent's bullshit it sounds exactly like 95% of regular jobs that people work for 12 months out of the year.
So what do your teachers do when the students are off for 3 months of summer? Or do they go year-round?
Which here is 100% factual. They don't work in the summer unless they choose to get another job. School is closed. Doors are locked. See ya in September.
My sister starts about 2 days before. She's usually setting up her classroom the day before.

Typically the teachers start coming back to prepare two weeks before the school year starts.
According to that article California is throwing money at people to teach. So if they have a shortage, it ain't because of wages.
It's probably because the kids are unruly assholes
My district gives the teachers a 1 paid day. Admin is there for 2 weeks before and many do drop by during that time to drop off materials and set up room.
