We also can only fish one rod at a time
What in tarnation? Just bring the kiddos barbie rod and say it's hers while she is frolicking, you are just keeping an eye on it.

um, tampon tim is his governor
Its been like that forever.

The reason is the coverage. We have 15k lakes or something insane. You can only hire so many people to maintain the carrying capacity of these waters and you know that most of the offenders are going to be in the city lakes so most of them are there.

Its just "the way it is" here and we dont really mind it. It creates an interesting fisherman for sure. We have endless options from great to dogshit. Lakes to rivers to streams. Fly fishing, conventional. But we typically are very invested in a sort of "kit" I guess you could say. You see a lot of hit and run going on. Cast, jig, whatever, give it 10 min and leave. Boom boom boom spot to spot. But we have to really hunt for good lakes and then good launches on those lakes, its always changing, cycles upon cycles. Not uncommon to fish more than one lake per day, although the DNR is really starting to push against guys doing that.

But say you go to South Dakota and fish the river and its totally different. 75% are bottom bouncing the rest are jigging. Yeah they have two rods apiece but all they do is drag them all day every time they go out and maybe toss a jig or two for shits and giggles.

Give me my one rod and my plano 3600 and I feel I can produce in any body of water on Gods green earth.

Walz also got harrassed on his trip this year. Guys saying shit like oh did you cut your finger, you can use a tampon to stop the bleeding. Shit like that.

I gave up fishing here, different bodies of water have different bait restrictions on them. You need a phd to figure out which bait you can use where and god help you if you have the wrong one.

We have some of that. Can't use live bait in some places. Can't harvest certain things of certain sizes. Etc.

Yep. Little trick…Hook the bluegill about a 1/2” above the end of the tail fin & it will make them swim to the bottom. Key for flatheads.
I'll usually hook them just behind the dorsal and then use a santee rig to keep them right about a foot off the bottom. This year has been really weird so far though as I've caught almost all of my flatheads on cut bait instead of live.

It seems like its getting to be that way almost everywhere now. I was going to plan a trip below the Conowingo Dam in Maryland and the restrictions change based on time of year, what bait you're using, how the striper and shad runs went that year, etc. Seemed like I would be pretty much guaranteed a fine if I ran into a warden so I didn't even bother going.

DNR has a lot of power and some aren't afraid to use it.
