That wasnt true in 92-93 and I doubt it's anymore true in 2015. October hockey means nothing and the World Series is actually difficult to get into. They don't let more than half the league in the playoffs in baseball.
Different world than 92-93. I'm slightly exaggerating but the every October they have slight success the Toronto media talks of them being playoff contenders and nothing else even if there are other stories.
Of course they will cover the Jays, but if the Leafs go on a streak the sportsnet will make a big deal of it either way. The Raptors were good last year and playoff bound and throughout it all, the Leaf futility and who was staying ans who was going was more talked about on the fan590 than the Raptors (who got coverage) but the question "Will Phill Kessel be traded" was asked no less than 50 times a day while the team quit on the coach.
When other teams suck they get buried in Toronto, when the Leafs are anything they get consistent coverage, if you look back at stories on the Sportsnet faebook over the summer, you'll see Leaf stories on days/weeks where there was literally nothing else going on but Bluejays baseball.
