All facts maam (besides the savages part). Keyword again is "many". All the Indians i've gotten to known that live in the USA agree they need a real revolution when it comes to hygiene and clean standards of living. The upper class could give 2 shits about the lower class people and don't bother trying to improve their living conditions. Poverty breeds crime and in places like India poverty means shitting in the streets along with these savages that think rape is a form of punishment.

The river you are referring to is the Ganges river. The religious people treat it like holy water. People believe that bathing in it brings them good luck. Also in death people trek from all over India to scatter a persons cremated ashes there. Its a religious belief. Millions of people congregate by that River in Varnasi for blessings.
And i don't think the poor people should be referred as savages simply because they are poor. They don't get welfare. They are on their own. They have to beg and collect garbage just to stay alive. The infrastructure is terrible there. They are forced to go to the washroom where they can because the facilities are not there.
This rape village story is that of sensationalism. Its not prevalent. Its just one of the few that hit the internet like many of the other odd stories. Its not indicative of the country.
If we lost our job and houses, and the government didn't give us welfare we would be in the same position. If stores didnt allow the homeless washroom facilities we would all have to take relieve ourselves in public. Its a different ballgame in a 3rd world country.
