I am on the fence about the GSP statement. He went from a balls to the wall finisher to a LnP wrestler when he won the belt and openly admitted it was the safest way to ensure keeping the title and protecting his sponsorships. That diminished him in my eyes greatly and I was one of his biggest fans.I personally don't agree with that. Hendo/Shogun, Bigfoot/Hunt, Lawler/Condit among others are some of the greatest fights we've ever had the pleasure of seeing. They shouldn't be punished financially for being tough bastards.
There's also a huge difference between watching Tyron try not to fight for 5 rounds and GSP winning a 5 round decision while trying to advance position for the duration of the fight.
Did he ever stop attempting to advance positions during his fights? It's also worth noting that every single fighter GSP fought late in his career knew his gameplan, acknowledged that they knew what he was going to do and that they had figured out the puzzle. Time after time, they were proven wrong. It was like watching Mariano Rivera pitch. The guy had one pitch and everyone knew it, but still, no one could hit it. That's a stark contrast from Tyron spending an entire fight clinging to the ability to avoid Maia.I am on the fence about the GSP statement. Advancing position and not doing anything with it is not something I care about. And just because people couldn't stop him from laying all over them and not trying to finish = I am not impressed with his performance.Did he ever stop attempting to advance positions during his fights? Believe it or not, it's not as simple as just "finishing" the best fighters in the world.Advancing position and not doing anything with it is not something I care about. And yet he finished them over and over again and then it suddenly stopped when he won the belt.......Believe it or not, it's not as simple as just "finishing" the best fighters in the world.
or as competition got better he had more decisions...And yet he finished them over and over again and then it suddenly stopped when he won the belt.......
One word: Hardyor as competition got better he had more decisions...
Please explain that to me!!! Is that seriously not a joke?We all know the Dana never tells the truth and who the fuck knows what they said on their phone call. Take the call he had with Hunt.
That shit is great, lol. Remember seening this a while back.We all know the Dana never tells the truth and who the fuck knows what they said on their phone call. Take the call he had with Hunt.
Mash up of audio and a vid. But explans the way Dana is.Please explain that to me!!! Is that seriously not a joke?
Wow, one decision against a guy who he probably could have finished. I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter. One word: Hardy

First round. If the doctors had heard what he said to his corner the fight would have been stopped. He was blind in that eye from the poke till the end of the fight..
- He just circled Jake not wanting to go to the ground. I do believe GSP took an eye poke so that could have been an issue there though I don't remember which round (late or early). I do remember GSP dropping Jake with a head kick in the 1st round and then not following up out of what I can only assume was concern of being dragged down with Jake to the floor and letting Jake pop back up which was a giant disappointment.
GSP changed his style after his loss the Serra. Before that he was still going for the finish. It's pretty widely known that he was never able to get over the emotional strain that loss put on him. He changed to his safe style after to make sure it wouldn't happen again.Re GSP changing styles after winning the belt: how do you extend the length of the bout by 2/3's and not expect a change in style?
I'd love to see the top guys in more 3 round fights where they could go balls-out and not have to worry so much about the gas tank.
Also, as long as 1/2 of your pay is your 'win bonus', you have incentive to get a W, regardless of how it's done.
