Thought I had unique insight to add even though I don't train. Hope to find others to discuss back and fourth.

Got started backyard training with my bff Wintermute @peter_weyland who was doing kempo at the time. Grappler since '96 with Krishna Mirjah, who's a Serra guy. Off and on, but mostly off. Did some jkd with Tim Tackett and Bob Bremer out in so-cal. Lifelong boxing enthusiast, but not much of a boxer. Taught kids BJJ for a couple years and cornered/managed some ammy MMA fighters here in NY. Coach my son a bit now in wrestling, but he's only 6 so it's like we're getting sharp together.

Nothing too glorious. Just always loved studying the game and been around for a lot of tournaments since back when people thought this was just a fad.
That's what its all about broski...Hope your son sticks with it and becomes a state champ and you can one day post vids of him whoopn ass...

I was looking for more information. Who was fighting who and where/when.
Then backgrounds, styles, etc.
My favorite back in the day was No Holds Barred, but it's gone.
Then ADCC. I found the UG by looking for No holds barred in 98-99.
Then we thought the world would crash Y2K.
It didn't.
I came here because I was invited, and stayed because admin is pro mma, pro fighter, and not bought by Zuffa.

Weird thing is I always knew submissionfighting.net from the technique photos they used to post that eventually came out as the Fighter's Notebook. Back then there was nowhere to get new techs if you didn't have a regular gym.

But I never made the connection between the forum and the tech stuff.
It's 2015 and you just helped me connect the dots. Wow. Never thought the two were the same.

had made some wacky videos on youtube, thought maybe some people on an mma forum would like it, so joined to post the links. Then noticed people were photoshopping in threads after fights and then joined in on the madness.

My brother and I used to spend around $40-$50 a month buying fight magazine fighters only etc was watching a BJ Penn fight and he said to Joe "if you wanna know how I feel, go to bjpenn.com". I checked it out and saved that money ever since. Since then found the UG, then here through the UG.

TUF noob and didn't have anyone to discuss it with. Friends don't really watch or train so I was kind of by myself with it. Heard Joe mention the UG so I checked it out. I didn't like the constant trolling on the UG so I lurked till '11 when I joined for a Nate Quarry Q&A to ask him a few questions.

Like most, I was just a guy who loved MMA and BJJ.... I overheard Din Thomas one time say (back in 2000-2001) about someone talking shit about him online, so I looked it up and found some chat room forum.

I didn't join a forum until I got on Myspace, because I saw someone mention Sherdog. I actually had 2 accounts there, the first I lost my login info for, the second was under Matches Malone. I liked the grappling sub forum, but hated the trolls on that site. It pissed me off when these non training, sit at home on their asses bastards would talk shit about guys I know/trained with. I stopped going on that site because of a combination of trolls/horrible moderators (and their cronyism)/biased views.

I discovered TMMAC because of Twitter, and because of guys at my BJJ tournament who spoke of this site.... And here we are

i dont remember!! i started on mmalinker about 5 years ago at least, and its probably just because i was so into mma at the time i kept looking up things about diffferent mma related things and eventually i probably found a site i liked used..

also, at the time it showed many, many fights online and wasn't blocking videos or anything so that helped. wanted to watch fight videos and then browsing the forum and becoming a member

Side inquiry..... Has anyone met any famous trolls or forum personalities?

I met one guy (never got his name) from the UG at a Grappler's Quest years back.... He was the "I've done a little muay thai training, and will start grappling as soon as this injury goes away" guy..... I didn't know who he was (I was never on UG), but a bunch of the guys knew who he was and wanted to kill him for all his shit talking LOL

Got into MMA in 2001 after renting some old UFC VHS tapes. Looked up the cool fighters I saw on the tapes (Tank Abbott, Don Frye, Gary Goodridge) and found Sherdog. It was nice because nobody I knew in real life gave a shit about the UFC or MMA, and from Sherdog I learned about Pride, K-1, ect.

Got banned from there after a couple years, then went to Iron-Life.org around 2002-03, because they were famous for having members who made amazing MMA HL videos (Hero1, KYHO, ect). Posted there for a while, then went to Ninjashoes, and here.

It's cooler to post on smaller forums because you can have actual conversations.

Found sherdog in 04 looking at Ken and Frank Shamrock's records. I joined it a few years later. Then the other place a couple months later. Elite XC's site Proelite I was on a lot, loved the site's format.

I did an email interview with a 20 year old aspiring journalist from a town with 18 seniors who typed a couple articles for BJPenn.com, and things really took off.
Right in the nick of time after being fired by Zuffa.
I think I've found a home here, as long as I can stay healthy.
I love talking UFC shop and heard this was the place.
So I responded to some high-level emails and BLOUGH, put the pussy on the chainwax.
