It's a dog and pony show.
They want commisions to solely take responsibility. They will not commit to the UFC individually taking excess disciplinary action.
There is no "if and when", only when.
Instead of simply "advocating" to global commissions, step outside and take them out of contract, they are released, done.

Same argument it's always been.
You steal, say goodbye to your hand.
You kill, you hang.
Get caught in our organization, you're fired.

And same hand picked media.

It's like watching a WH press conference.
Clapping after a press conference on steroid use?

"We identified a problem"

No you didn't. Wasn't Barnett the first champion to be tested, and failed, 13 years ago?

No one asks the one question: "Will you implement an organizational lifetime ban for steroid users?"

If that question isn't asked.....

I haven't listened to it yet, but from what has been said the new system sounds good. Random testing program for all fighters starting from July 2015, but did they say how many fighters would be tested in this program? All main events and co-mains is another great step, which should eventually lead to the risk verses reward equation being too heavily in favour of risk for guys wanting to reach the top to ever start on roids. Which should be the main goal, stopping guys from ever starting down that slope.

Although, it all seems to hinge on the punishments. Without the increase in punishment then some guys will still be tempted to beat the system and so it will be on how effective this advocacy with the ACs will turn out to be or the more cynical view, if it even exists. If they can't get the NSAC to agree to the harsher punishments then, frankly, they aren't advocating for it, since we all know how much pull they have with them.

Zuffa being their own commission sets off all kind of red flags for me, it's like a football team testing their own players, what happens if their best biggest investment fails, would they release the results?

Also does this mean the proper commissions won't get funded now for the OOC tests they having been catching cheats with? I cannot see why they would get funded once Zuffa have their system in place.

They said they are funding an independent third party to do the testing and are in talks with various organizations at the moment.

So I just heard the press conference and I'm not really sure why they had a press conference on this. They are going to test for PED's in the future. ok. Shouldn't this be more of a media release kind of deal? Write a few paragraphs and let people know.

I mean they said they still hadnt chosen a testing company yet but they just wanted to have a press conference out to let people know they are serious about this. Didn't really seem press conference worth to me. They should have chosen a company first and then go from there to let people know the specifics of it.

What's everyone else's thoughts on this. Did you feel it was press conference worthy?

Yes, but Zuffa are in the driving seat regarding the rules, results etc.

They said it was by WADA rules. I don't get it, are you unhappy they are paying for it?

There may be debate on p4p rankings or who is the all time Goat fighter, but there is zero, nada, none, no debate whatsoever, on what company or organization is the undefeated, reigning, defending, undisputed, GOAT of calling a press conference for announcing nothing.

3 guesses and the second two answers don't count.

I couldn't watch it all as I'm at work. The part I did see was Lorenzo not giving a solid answer on stripping champions if they piss hot. I think he said they'll cross that bridge when they get there. If they want to be taken seriously I'd say you have to be proactive and set clear rules and consequences.

They don't seem like they're ever fully prepared to hold press conferences. Ex: The Time Is Now. And when they do, it's for something that could have been covered in a press release, like you said. Maybe they think being in front of cameras make them appear more serious.

THE TIME IS NOW

As far as the third party mentioned, they said there were only three such organizations that even existed capable of the level of testing they're suggesting.
Doesn't this sound a little like the Department of Labor and Industries sending an injured worker to an "Independent medical exam"?

The most malleable entity will likely get the contract; Orr all of them, or they'll become agreeable.

They are going to be the commission of their own testing, just because they are paying for the testing and will be contracted to a lab does change the fact that they are in control of the testing and results, releases etc.

I'm glad the extra testing is getting done though, but would rather it was done through the commissions with Zuffa still funding it, it's been working. If it's not broke.........

If it is by a independent third party, who follow WADA rules, then surely it comes down to who the independent third party is and not ZUFFA?

i'd say the testing agency has to hand the results to the commissions so they can be cleared to fight.

Finally watched this charade. Some lies, some exaggerations, some placing of blame. They said the right things...doing them is totally different story. Personally, I think it's smoke and mirrors. We shall see. I did find Calo's take on it hilarious.

superCalo ‏7 minutes ago Ariel is back to uFc insider status, damage control duty. I am proud of him, he worked hard, licked enuf ass, back where he belongs.

Listening to the auto tape of the PED press conference and I LOLd when Tiny Swole said they hold conference to educate the fighters on the dangers of PED use, im sure that also included the proper way to cycle. These guys are as corrupt as they come and this was a dog and pony show, Sorry Tiny Swole until you give up the PEDs you cant expect your independent contractors to do the same

I just finished watching, I'm trying to be critical here but I feel they are going in the right direction. Sure, nothing is settled yet but they made a commitment that they won't be able to get back on without some major backlash. They're committed now, I can't see how they can renege now. As they said, they need to sit down with the current commissions and iron things out, it can't be done overnight.

We'll have in-comp, out-of-comp and random testing. Seems like doing PEDs in the UFC will be russian roulette when this kicks in.

They talked about some finer points that I hadn't considered before, doing this globally isn't easy, there are quite a few hurdles to overcome.

Short of testing all fighters randomly year round globally, I'm not sure what else they can do.

And Zuffa being jury, judge and executioner doesn't sound like a good idea to me, as some people are in favor of.

The tests will be administered by an org like USADA, that org will choose who to test and when to test (or the commission may order that?), Results will be sent to the ruling Commissions and Zuffa won't know until notified. How could Zuffa protect a fighter then? Did you watch the presser?

And if word got out they were protecting some of their stars, they'd completely discredit themselves forever, it makes no sense.

If they were in to do that shady shit they would just keep the current status quo and move on, no?
