reviewing taxes for my first incorporated year with the Tax Man next week. I should also get the patent research review from my patent attorney next week...

Working through an ISO 17025 assessment this weekend...only like 35 observations so far, and at least 3 Corrective Actions.

I did manage to raise my standard of living in my first year of independent work, and it's amazing to be home with my 4 yo every day. I feel a lot more pressure, since there's no safety net of a severance package. However, I did manage to end the year with 6 digits in the business account, and if I'm successful in getting my accreditation I can really start generating revenue this coming year.

taking a work trip out to Austin, week of Feb 21st, if anyone in the neighborhood wants to get together for a beer and some BBQ. I'm staying north of town, but I have to hit downtown for Manuels and Ironworks. Also looks like a trip to Ottawa in March, maybe I can get in on some of that Freedom ya'll are stockpiling downtown.

whatever your people do for good luck...cross your fingers, do a rain dance, sacrifice a goat, whatevs...do one for me. I'm expecting BigNews and an important document to sign in the next week or two. Will be a real "life-goal/career milestone" if it goes through.

first business trip is official. I'm working in the lab of the "800 lb Gorilla" of my industry this week, with their Head Gorilla. One of those guys who everyone knows by his first name. Real opportunity for me to fuck it up and look like an amateur clown show.

But if it works out, I could be punching my ticket to fame and fortune. Unfortunately, my career has some of the worst groupies. Mostly dudes that don't speak great English but are awesome at math. :)

My AirBnB is fantastic, host is amazing sweet/funny lady, and the plane ride was easy...no anti-mask nutters getting the flight diverted.
Dinner tonight will probably be Blue Corn Harvest Bar & Grill, haven't been there yet but it's got oodles of good reviews.

He told me that I'd be out of a job

Told him that’s okay, work is a sucker’s game anyway

I’m 86ing this town, me and my canine we’re gonna wander out our days

dang - a lots gone on since I updated this thread...the big news is that as of yesterday I'm patent-pending on my "robot".
The Toronto trip(s) were a resounding success, so much so that the client suggested/demanded that I come to a trade show and get the booth next door.

so....I'm at a trade show this week, and I've dropped ~ 10k in to a booth, fabric wall, carpet, embroidered shirts for myself, swag, and other shit for this trip. My swag is a Rubix cube, marketing the idea that the key to solving complex problems is "Aggregating Incremental Improvements". The company logo is on the white face of the cube, and I have a link on my website to a cube-solving tutorial website that starts with "Step 1, solve the white side".

:)

I also learned that the Convention Center will charge you (swallow your drink, trust me) $860 to move 5 boxes weighing less than 100 lbs COMBINED from the dock of the Convention Center to my booth.

unleash thy positive vibes in this direction, it's going to be an adventurous day.

Where's the trade show? You don't have to stay on Toronto do you?

Got back from the trade show. An equipment rental company wants to be exclusive provider of my deployable measurement kit.

In my way to Santa Clara to measure chambers at a major internet company...if you're reading this, you're using their gear.

And waiting on a PO to measure in San Fran early September...which should pay pretty well, and it's for a major chamber re-seller. Could be huge, as chamber relocations usually involve Before and After measurements. Double-Dip.

But spent $15k on a patent, so the wallet is light. :)
