I'd like to think so but it's easy to speculate on your hypothetical heroism. Once I started to climb out and found I only had a finger or two on a precarious piece of Colombian tile 6 stories up, I may try to figure out a different solution.

I would go up a flight of stairs and kick in that guys door, then walk to this patio to get my dog.

Well, if I were used to climb up balconies, sure, but I am not.. so yeah, I probably would have taken a ladder and secured myself with a rope, and took the dog down, rather than to climb up and pull it back.

100 foot sounds a lot, but I do have a ladder that is about 3 meters high, should be enough to reach from the balcony below to the dog.

You need to be a bit creative in putting it.. I worked on ladders on balconies before, hence I do have a ready-made ropes for that kinda thing. Its still much less risky than free-climbing the thing.

My dog can jump 3 feet high from a stand still. It's a non-issue because I wouldn't let her out on a balcony.
