Pendred was a good fighter, and Gunner Nelson isn't exactly a bum, either. You want to talk about over rated and then mention Zahabi as being upper echelon? You serious?

I'm also in disbelief that you called Jackson over rated.

All good points. I was mostly using the Mendes comp to show the volume of punches Conor needs to land to be affective. I was getting the impression from a lot of Conor's fans that Khabib won't be able to close the distance without getting ko'd.

I think it's an excellent fight. I think the way you describe McGregor winning the fight is a real possibility. I just feel like Conor will be a lot tighter than usual. He will not have as much creative freedom because I think that Khabib is uniquely capable of taking advantage of any mistakes Conor makes. I see Conor using that push kick to create as much distance as he can. I don't see him setting his feet, and commiting very much. I think Conor frustrating him with movement and picking away at him for a decision is a remote possibility.

I don't see Khabib walking him down as blatantly as he did against Barbosa. Barbosa is a more powerful but more one dimensional striker than Conor. Khabib was just worried about those head kicks. I think people are imagining Khabib with the same game plan and being a sitting duck for Conor. Khabib is a world class athlete and is going to be showing Conor some looks of his own.
I don't see McGregor finishing him and I don't think there is a chance in hell he can avoid getting taken down, and a takedown by Khabib means only two things, a) GNP finish or b) conceding the round and spending it on your back taking damage.
I really see it as Conor having a lot less room for error than Khabib does. 2nd round KO for Khabib.
I can't remember all of Khabibs fights but iirc he's not really a game plan guy who's shown different looks. The fights I do remember he basically moves forward like a Terminator and banks on eventually getting them, taking them down and mauling them. It's been very effective so far but eventually he's gonna pay for it. Like you said I doubt Conor will land one ko shot to end it but I think he can land enough while moving back to make Khabib take some risks in order to grab him and that's where he'll get boxed up. Not a lock for either guy is my stance but I'm favouring McG until I see some more depth from Nurmie.

The Mendes fight isn't a accurate comparison. For 1 Conor was cutting like 25+ lbs to make 145. McGs cardio has been questionable for sure but that cut was killing him.

What Chad has over Khabib is a very effective way to close the distance with his power punches and speed, neither of those things are ever talked about when discussing Khabib. Also Chad is more of a TD, beat up, let back up and repeat where Khabib usually holds the guy down, much different styles so I don't think this comparison has much value.

I can't speak for anyone else but I don't see Conor landing one shot to finish anyone at LW or higher, that only worked for him at FW. What I do see Conor doing is landing multiple shots while Khabib walks straight forward as he knows that's all he can do to try and get ahold of him. That front kick he uses is awesome and once he can get Khabib worried about getting caught his shots will start to come from further and further away making for some easy pickings for McGregor.

The real threat is Tony. IMO he beats Khabib and Conor as of now.

sorry I have to disagree partially

Khabib is a real threat...never lost

Tony is also a real threat

I was thinking that a front kick would have aided Barbosa in keeping the distance, the way he was standing so upright....but alas, it is for another fight.

Ya I can't disagree about Conor looking pretty useless off his back. It's just getting him there, that's the issue. Khabib shouldn't bank on eating a few shots willingly to get to him. If he has other ways I haven't seen them yet.

Good point. Granted, I'm not sure how kind history will be to them.
Have Conor defend his belt ten times and see how history will treat SBG! Conor is good but don’t let his mouth fool you into thinking he’s the best fighter in the world. A great shit talker but not an all time great fighter until he starts racking up some numbers on paper. Money in the bank does not buy a legacy like Aldo, Barrao, RDA, Silva...hell even Lawler, Diaz (both), Werdum etc.

Win or lose, these folks all fought for their legacy’s. Conor talked his way into his popularity with relatively fewer fights to speak of. I mean he’s good and all but is also beatable by a number of fighters in his division, including Khalabib.

You're mistaking me with someone who thinks that Conor is one of the all time greats. But what he has done speaks for itself, his mouth might have put him in those fights, but he still had to win them.

Let's not get too carried away with Barao's legacy. He didn't exactly have a stellar title reign, his legacy is mostly about missing weight.

I agree but I also believe he navigates his fights rather intelligently, avoiding the heavy grapplers as much as possible. Mendes did take him down at will and if he doesn’t take out Khabib before he shoots it will be a very long and difficult night for Conor. Then again, each round starts standing so there’s a few chances he has to close it out before it gets too bad.

I think the alpha factor of both guys makes this a very interesting matchup. Who will submit to the others will first?

Well if theres one thing both Kavanah and Zahabi have common in the recent years is that both their champs don’t like defending belts.

Michael johnsons straight left landed alot in the first round against khabib and stunned him. If conor lands his straight left once its over
What makes u think that Conor’s left is stronger than Johnson’s?

Conor tko’d Dustin Poirer at 145 when Johnson KO Dustin out cold at 155.

Conor doesn’t have the same KO power he has at 145, at 55. Alvarez, maybe but I think he was just got caught up in the moment and Conor couldn’t put away Nate after hitting him with evwrything he had. Not even a leg kick KO

Conor will duck Khabib.

UFC will do Conor vs Tony and if Conor wins, he flees the division to avoid Khabib.

What Champs does Zahabi have?
He had GSP for the longest time, defending belts, every single competition put in front of him unlike someone who always make the most convenient excuses for himself not to defend.

Nothing to do with the gym’s fall out the belts are no longer there.

Say whatever u say about AKA, if Cain is some miraculously recovered fully, that is the only gym that can tease the idea of 4 UFC division champ.

Kavanah has 1 champ who doesn’t defend at all. Kavanah camp braggs about solving giant Nate Diaz’s puzzle to a damn decision. There is nothing impressive going on there, except Conor’s individual accomplishments
