All I keep seeing seeing are interviews after interview of children that knew him and knew he was crazy and that steered clear of him because they're worried that he would have a violent outburst.
I'm as pro-gun as anybody. Own multiple and I'm against gun bans. The law should reflect some level of preemptive safety to reflect this sort of Common Sense understanding that somebody poses a higher-than-normal risk.
It's a terribly difficult balance between rights, privacy, tyranny, and government's requirement to protect life as well.
Bizarre schizotypal kid that everybody knows from a mile away is a problem should not be able to purchase guns without a clearance and evaluation.
Definitely a tough situation
I’m not sure where I stand on people having to go through a mental evaluation based off of peers opinions of them. Every generation has kids that seem weird. In mine it would basically mean every goth kid in my HS would have had to have one. In the 70’s every Black Sabbath listening “devil worshipper “ May have been called into question.
I think we need to take a strong look into all the meds that kids are fed today. As my much as I hate to say it perhaps movies and video games that promote and glorify violence needs to be looked at.
But as someone who works for a school district and could very well be the guy walking around campus that makes first contact with a shooter, I’d like to see.
Schools built with higher gates and fences around them. A 6ft chain link or block wall is way to easy to get on campus.
A barrier between campus and neighborhoods houses. Again to make it harder for someone to get on campus without being seen at all.
2-3 armed guards at different areas around the campus. If one is taken out first , he others should hear shots and be come mmediate first responders. I’d like to see these be well vetted former military or police. The guns aren’t going anywhere and it’s time to start protecting the school kids like we do at airports or other targeted areas.
