Sheriff Tony fucked up because the sheriff is a god damn idiot. Here's what he's accomplished in the last year:
- fired a friend of mine when the internal affairs panel recommended no disciplinary action (Tony did it to score political points for his upcoming election)
- suspended the deputies' union president because the union pres talked shit about him to a local newspaper
- received a vote of no confidence by 85% of the deputies union
- lied about never getting arrested when he was 14 years old. He was arrested and held for a week after shooting and killing a man but he was eventually found not guilty. He had also lied about this on his job application not only to the sheriff's office but to his old job as a police officer in a neighboring agency
He's gone full Florida even for a Florida sheriff.
oooo, sounds like someone should go to jail.

Israel and Tony are both shit. Both former Republicans who switched parties because you can't win elections as a Republican in Broward County. Israel is a do-nothing fuckwit and Tony is a guy who loses his shit every time someone criticizes him. I used to think he was a decent guy too until he fired a friend of mine to score political points with the black community.
But because money wins elections, one of them (whoever wins the August primary) will be elected in November.

Just one but it made international news. Only 1/3 of the cops involved have gone to trial so far (the one that did was the only one to request a speedy trial), and he was found not guilty and reinstated.

Nothing my friend did violated department regulations. When Sheriff Tony was appointed (he was never elected) by the governor after the governor fired our last sheriff, Tony came in and talked about the need to get tough on crime. Then he bitched out once he saw that firing my friend might help him gain political points.
An Internal Affairs investigation was conducted and recommended no disciplinary action. Tony fired him anyway. My friend was charged by the state attorney's office so of course he has to be suspended until that plays out, but he's going to be found not guilty and cleared.

His sergeant is the one who sprayed the kid. He's the third one to face charges over the incident. He hasn't gone to trial yet either.
All of this took place in a McDonald's parking lot. The manager at the McDonald's called 911 because there were 100 high school kids in the parking lot. The Sheriff's office showed up and told everyone to leave. They didn't. The Sheriff's office responded when certain individuals chose not to cooperate.
