Ok I'm bored of this now. I've tried to discuss it rationally but you're being obtuse.
If you say that calling someone "xyz" nationality/race is derogatory again, I'm going to pink you.
Something I was wondering was that if you say a racial epithet, did you commit a crime against everyone in that entire race? I read Dennis Rodman's book when I was a kid and I remember him saying in the NBA dressing room everyone said the N-word including white guys and everyone was cool with it. So was it okay for Larry Byrd to use it in that context where the black people in the room were cool with it, or should they just not use it at all?

I use it with good friends. I have a black friend from Nigeria who objected to my usage of it so I stopped. I have a lot of female friends that I address as bitches. If anyone would have a problem with it I trust them to tell me and I will regulate my speech accordingly. I honestly don't have an issue addressing ladyboys with female pronouns, however I am not gonna call some butch booty warrior she.

It is actually a good read. It's an autobiography. Rodman is an interesting man.

Lets say for example Larry Byrd and Magic Johnson are hanging out and Larry uses the N-word because they have a relationship where that's acceptable between them, has Larry done something wrong? And in the event someone records Larry saying it in that private context, does he owe black people everywhere an apology?

I am a proponent of common sense. A friend of mine can call me a reindeer fucking, alcoholic. If you're not my friend that's likely to involve me correcting the person. Probably happens every time I am with an Asian girl here. If it's a passing comment I ignore it. If someone who knows me calls my friend a gold digging whore I tend to get physical. Has happened once in 8 years.
You agreed the old lady probably meant it in a racist way. If it was racist in that context, then how is it not derogatory? No I'm not being obtuse. I'm Asian and I find it incredibly offensive if someone calls me Chinese. Not for being mistaken as looking Chinese but associating me with bad stereotypes of that group.
Everyone knew each other and It was used in a code like speech between buddies and It's not some stranger yelling it on the street. Context is important.
