I agree with the first part of this. Conor punched himself out thinking he'd knock Nate out, which wasn't unreasonable because Conor had knocked out nearly all of his previous opponents.

But I disagree that Nate could ever beat Conor again. Maybe if Conor came into the fight as unprepared as he was the first time, but that simply isn't going to happen.

At 155, with the extra weight Nate has to cut, Conor puts him to sleep in one of the first two rounds.
Conor was at the point of quitting at the end of at least one of the rounds in their second fight. Hats off to him for rallying himself during the break but he was a lot closer to the brink than Nate ever was.

No way man. That shot was timed and as well placed as any great KO. If he had his back turned and swung blindly then that's one thing but he had him lined up for a big hail Mary and it worked, not a fluke!
If you gave some random fighters just 3 seconds and only one chance to throw one big overhand and it must knock their opponent out otherwise they lose.
What sort of percentage do you think the punch lands and knocks the opponent out?
Because that's the situation Smith was in and I think bugger all make that last ultimate haymaker count, otherwise we would see it a lot more often when fighters are hurt and all but finished. Instead I think it's the only time I've seen such a thing happen. I mean even Conor - a great striker- couldn't do it when he was getting beaten up amd humiliated by Nate and mayweather.
I think it's the very definition of a fluke... albeit a frickin awesome fluke.

two ConorNuthuggers pm'd each other for a secret squirrel meeting about creating this thread to get this answer below.

Khabib/Iaquinta.

Not that the victory itself was a fluke, but the fact that a guy was allowed to win a championship off of the 11th ranked guy is possibly the biggest fluke in MMA.

At least Serra had to actually beat GSP.
only fluke out of all this is Conor and his nuthuggers thinking that Conor's striking got so much better after boxing, that he's going to KO Nate if they fought at 155. Conor hit him with everything he had in the 2nd fight and couldn't put Nate away. Conor didn't improve on power, he's probably slightly more accurate than he was after training for pro boxing bout, but his cardio is still shit which on the contrary, Nate's cardio is way better at 155.

The Conor haters always have Conor on the brain, it's unbelievable. They say I'm obsessed with Conor but they keep bringing him up in threads where he's not even mentioned.

Come on man, I'm not saying anything disrespectful towards Khabib. All he could do was fight who they put in front of him. They put Iaquinta there and Khabib handled his business.

But how can you disagree with my assertion that it's a fluke he got to fight the number 11th ranked guy for a world title? It'd be a fluke for ANYONE getting to win a world title off the 11th ranked guy.

Your anti-Conor bias clouds your judgement. If he had moved up to 155 and fought the 11th ranked guy for the LW title instead of the legit champ, you all would be laughing about his paper title and how he was never really a champion. But Khabib does it and there's no complaints.

And another thing: imagine if it was Conor who had his 30-man posse with him and he confronted and threatened a lone Khabib team member, 30v1. You'd all be talking about what a coward he was.

Khabib does it, and it's all good in the hood lol

I don’t think Smith was a fluke. He knew he had one shot

And he put everything he had into it then collapsed. It was an incredible moment for sure but not a fluke.

I was saying this thread was created to point out exactly what you were saying, which is saying that I actually agree with you.

I defend Khabib cuz it's not his fault and I know that that's not what you're saying but the more it gets mentioned, I feel like that's exactly what you're trying to say, so I chimed in.

When I read through this thread, Conor vs Nate is mentioned a lot, even with the OP.
Everything I said about Conor was about that and I don't think my opinion is that far off, Conor probably improved a lot in striking after boxing but I don't know how much that will have effect vs third Nate fight given in the 2nd fight, Conor threw everything he had at Nate, accurately placed shots (credit to Conor, knocked Nate down a lot) but still couldn't put him away and the Conor fans think somehow 155 will be different.

Conor didn't show any sign of improvement with his cardio since the 1st Nate fight. 2nd fight, he had that dip in end of 2nd,all of 3rd rnd, Alvarez fight couldn't tell, Floyd fight was obvious and it has a lot to do with the way Conor fights cuz he spends lot of explosive energy in short time but exactly that, is he going to fight any other way?

Nate is shredded at 155, that means his cardio will be even better, and usually good cardio equals to better chin.

This is the first thing that came to mind.

Frightening display of athletic prowess from Mike Russow.

I'm sounding like a broken record here, how is that a fluke? Russo threw a lunch with the intent to stop Duffy and he succeeded. That was an amazing comeback for an underdog for sure but I see nothing fkukey about a pro fighter throwing and landing a fight ending punch.

Fair enough bro!

I agree that Conor's stamina is a big problem. I believe it's a mental thing, that he'll have to get over!
