I listened to the ruling on it and seems like the rules are a bit too inflexible and Mickelson really should've been DQ'ed because of his intent. They haven't mentioned any previous examples of similar incidents that involve hitting a moving ball. Know of any?
The committee would have to determine if it is a serious breach or not and they have determined it to not be. They look at everything going on at the time of the infraction and if it hinders other players. Phil was +10 and not in contention at the time and the infraction didn’t impact the play of Beef at all.
I see a lot of butthurt about it but like you said, he wasn't in contention and Phil has been the model of class & integrity for years. His haters can suck it.
