I'm sure you're aware of how Korean society plants these ideas, ever since at a young age, only way to be successful in life is to go to college and work for some corporation, or become Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, etc...

12 year old Korean kids schedules are like 7am go to school til 4pm, then go to some extra curriculum activity usually consisting of (playing instruments or some special skill), then go to after school study program, learn English, Chinese, Japanese, study more until like 10pm, then get to come home and probably study more, sleep few hours and do it over next day is the reason for highest suicide rate among teens out of any first world country.

Then you're lucky if you get accepted to college, if not, you gotta do 재수 (repetitive study of college exam) until you make it. If you're male and turned 19, you gotta drop everything and go do your mandatory military service. Then say, you made it all the way, and graduated college and got hired at some corporate job.

Your life is over. All of my friends, cousins, people that I know who works in Korea, male or female, all are prisoners of their job. Everyone on salary pay but work your ass off without overtime and if you lack in putting your time in, next hungry guy/gal in line is going to take your place so there's no choice but to work. In the midst of this harsh lifestyle, there's no time for dating, relationships, marriage, or even thinking about having kids.

Don't you think it's weird when you watch Kpop culture, so many Koreans are super talented but they never come up with anything original. That's because Koreans value skills and technique over creativity and thinking outside of the box.

This institutionalized lifestyle from birth to death is the reason why they don't think too highly of getting married or having kids in the first place. What the fuck is the point? Just going to work til you die...

This maybe true for men but women actually we don't want to spend our life doing all that and looking after you, the kids and your mom.

Heavy burden of domestic duties and inlaws was the number 1 reason women divorced. Since this is about why women don't want kids I think you need to consider these views that you may not consider being a man.

Probably if I have kids I want to help with grand kids and if not then I want to have lots of pets and live long enough to take care of them all. Life is precious.

maybe for some women that is the case but a lot of Korea is turning away from their customary traditions where most families in today's day and age, don't really follow that.

this video is made to only point out why the reason for women not wanting to get married, but doesn't include men's point of view. What about the single men when they turned old?

also, the video is very contradictory, talking about sexual assaults for women who can't afford but to live in poor neighborhoods but the first woman in the video lives in Gangnam, works in Gangnam (richest places to live in all of South Korea) on her florist salary?

My guess is that the men aren't getting married because women aren't marrying them for the reasons I listed. This is about women remember.

I can tell you as a girl that we commonly discuss among ourselves how we don't want to live like our mothers etc. and I hear that even from women twice my age so one issue that needs to be address is Korea's patriarcal society. Women are choosing less to be earning outside the home but expected to be like a housewife too. They rather be alone.

You painted exactly what I witnessed firsthand in Korea.
I feel really sad for those kids.
I know some Korean parents who immigrated to Canada precisely to give their kids a chance to escape that confucianist hell.
Because hell it really is...

You guys not get it the first lady and second lady had two different problems? The first lady doesn't want the trouble of a family because too much domestic responsibility on top of her career. She can afford to be single. However it's not just the wealthy who are choosing to remain single. The second lady shows the problem when women who are just getting by who also remain single.

It's not a wealth gap reason why they don't want marriage and kids it is too much pressure problem. They have to deal with all that tang mentioned in addition to being cast in old fashion mother roles. Korean culture is so dated. Old people and men need to stop facilitating that dated perception because more and more women don't want that life.

In my 11 years of working with the elderly, I've never heard anyone over 80 yoa say anything remotely close to this.

Nope, only the ones who can’t let go must say that. The ones who want to cling to everything, greedy, want to be young forever, can’t accept the reality of it’s just part of nature, every living organisms born and die.

Most people who lived their lives to the fullest, enjoyed every bit of it, usually say, “shiet, I’ve lived 70years? Enough of this shit, time to go out with a bang” and don’t mind dying.

Always people who were unhappy with their lives because they’ve been wasting their entire life doing something they didn’t like or wasted their entire life believing some religion, pretty much all the people with regrets are so eager to live longer...
