Over the last year or so I’m finding that I really care less and less about the cards. I used to call, talk and text my friends and make plans for almost every card and now I’m not sure when the last one was that I watched with other people. Hell most of the time I just check updates on my phone and watch the fight I’m interesting after it’s done.

I don’t know if it’s the constant card changes due to injuries, the sheer abundance of cards diluting my attention or the way that MMA promotion has gone down this cringy soap opera like path.

Is anyone else feeling like this or is it just me?

I’m the same man

I fast forward through most fights as most of the buildup is a bunch of wannabe bullshit imo......I just look at the tv and think “what did I do with the remote?” Only to find out that I fell asleep and it’s tucked in my shorts

I still DL and watch every ufc event, but it sometimes feels like a chore. It's easy to jump past all the between fight crap and the Buffer bullshit though, so it's far better than live, imo. I wish I could take part in the live fight night threads with you knobs, but that's the only drawback.

I do find I'm muting the commentary less often now that Rogan has stepped back. Jimmy is a superior replacement at this point in their careers.

anyways back to the topic. interest in ufc is waning for me. interest in mma is doing just fine .perhaps better than it has been since the golden era when pride and strikeforce were around. PFL has been great and bellator has come a long ways since the bjorn days .ACB and M! are putting on regular shows KSW iand rizin are amazing .there is so much mma available these days that its impossible to take it all in.

To chime in here. It's hard for me to be critical without coming off as negative. The thing is, I'm a highly critical person in some ways and mma used to be a real source of interest for me. Maybe it's maturity, maybe I'm too caught up in my own thoughts but I really think that from shortly after the Ice-man era, they lost their way. The UFC was able to ride that out until Lesnar came along to generate interest again and then they were able to ride that wave until Ronda became a thing (that was their ONE great success of doing what they should be experts at doing imo) and then Conor came along but....they just don't know how to consistently connect with the public and it's frustrating to watch them fail at something which is NOT THAT FUCKING HARD TO DO with the resources at their disposal.

I been watching MMA ever since I rented UFC 2 on a VHS from my local video store back in 1994.

Nothing has really gotten my interest in the sport to wane at all over these years. Not even when it was kicked off of cable (I had to find a friend of a friend who Satellite TV service so I could watch!)

If you can't find something to get excited about when a card rolls around, don't know what to tell you.

Sure not every card is going to be stacked with the names you love, but many times the lesser known names are who give you the best fights on the card.

I'm sure as hell not going to miss that.

Plus, I'm not watching MMA because of a particular fighter or fighters. I'm watching because of the fights.

And if the fights turn out to be snoozers, at least I had a good meal (I always go out to this local sports bar to watch the UFC.)

Try playing fantasy MMA.

(Shameless MagWar plug. But also an honest suggestion. Fantasy makes sports better.)

I obviously tune in for the fights but if there's a fighter with a great back story or something else to draw me in I get much more invested.

Rory is from my town and I've trained at the same club years ago so I'm always watching him fight.

Gastelum being the constant underdog and now the smaller guy makes me wanna watch him fight.

Conor is fun to watch but I love all the unexpected ted shit that he brings too. More people watch him weigh-in than some guys can draw for a fight.

Derrick Lewis is always throwing BB's and had an aging IG account and port fight speech so again, I'll do my best to catch every fight.

What has has turned me off of UFC over the years are:
> Dana's dickishness (has gotten a lot better though)
> the encouraged asinine trashtalk
> unjustified title shots
> instant rematches
> interim titles, tons of

My interest in the top level of MMA hasn't waned. For a while now, that's been the UFC belts, but Pride, Strikeforce, WEC and Bellator have had their own lights. I like PFL's new season and tourney system. A lot of tabs to keep, but following along as the sport evolves is worth it to me. Ray Jr. KO'ing Detective Shields last night was spectacular. Twitter/MMA and TMMAC help me a ton.

Yeah it seems like MMA hasn't been as good for the last year and a half or so.

Almost like something is missing...

Something big, and awesome...

Fantasy Sports (Seasonal, not Daily) is the Adderall to Gambling's Crystal Meth.

Have you tried the daily fantasy for mma at all? I do an awful lot of NBA/MLB/NFL dfs, I've tried MMA a few times but I haven't had much luck with it

Me thinks: America has a tendency to saturate a market with crapola ie UFC is everywhere at all times-- remember how America nearly OD'd on Rhonda? You couldn't get away from her even if you wanted. No disrespect to her or her accomplishments. Although I don't see the WWE as a template by any means, at least they have the good sense to groom their talent to get maximum bank on their PPVs. If they were to just throw together a bunch of rasslers together and shite out PPV after PPV they would alienate their fans. So, I think you really hit on something that everybody is feeling. Y'all(the Promoters) are taking us(the fans) as a bunch of suckers. Not to mention paying the fighters peanuts for putting their asses on the line. Really not a lot has changed since the gladitorial times unfortunately. Remember in the early UFC days they marketed it as NO RULES! and BLOOD, BLOOD and more BLOOD!?? Now they really try to push the spectacle/edgy hipster angle down our throats. I remember Tyson said: "As hard as I work in the gym, there are people working harder to take my money from me." Can't remember who said, "Wherever there is money you will find three things: talent, crooks and talented crooks."

i dunno. personally used to love mma. i still follow it religiously and have a very keen interest, that interest is here to stay. but i don't attend events or watch many full fights - and feel way more concerned about lasting damage. I'm half a fan but still right there. wish john hr was here.

WWE essentially abandoned the PPV model. $10 a month for WWE network and you get the PPVs for free.
