Autos really aren't a bad idea for outdoor grows. They've been around long enough that there are some good, stable strains, and not being photoperiod can be a positive. An early start means you're flowering through the longest days with the most powerful sun. Flowering with 16+ hours/day of sunlight can mean some pretty large plants. Obviously a plant with a 2-3 week veg won't get to be a tree like one that gets 3 or 4 months of vegetative growth, but like John said, you can get more cycles in.

I've had decent luck with indoor autos, and have recently set up a little test cabinet growing a Blue Cush auto under off the shelf LED bulbs with the covers removed. I've got a mixture of, I believe 3000K and a few 5000k bulbs, totaling around 85W running on the same 18/6 timer as my veg tent.. The plant container is in an aerated reservoir and I've been surprised and impressed with what I'm seeing. I switched to a larger reservoir yesterday, as I was getting tired of topping up the smaller one 2-4 times/day. The plant is 50 days from sprout and is nothing but rapidly swelling tops. I've given up trying to estimate yields, but expect a decent little crop.
Since this plant/cab setup has been evolving from sprout, I expect subsequent autoflowers to benefit from a tested and consistent experience, but I'll probably change one thing too many and fuck it all up. /shrug

I don't really need the extra harvest, this is just experimenting with lighting, plant training, nutrient delivery, etc with fast growing plants in a fun way that doesn't affect my main photoperiod garden. Sorry to babble on, this is also kind of a grow journal for me.

7 Advantages to Autoflowering Seeds

Things you need to know about autoflowering seeds

Hey Papi Chingon @Papi Chingon
maybe if you have too much light you could go to auto flower seeds...can get more crops per year/summer....don't need full darkness or flowering light cycle

was just reading a bit about them and thought I would just post...you probably already know but I am sharing in case you don't

I have one auto flower and it is almost mature and has been budding 6 weeks now and I am on same light cycle as you and also west coast...thought it was a clone but asked the dispensary and they said they grew it from seed so the clock was ticking till flower cycles(wish I had know that)
I don't know how to put this to you, but fuck auto flower seeds right up their gay asshole.

I have heard similar things

But I have yet to experience their suck and fuck yet

Just was sharing info...have you had experience with them?

end of my flowering period gets wet and morning dewey so it is an alternative to black out set up for early flowering and can avoid the bud rot and powdery mildew that plague pacific NW outdoor

I will get back with results of the buds and how much they suck or not.

They certainly have their place in certain applications, but when I am looking for a specific strain or cross, I don't want the extra variable of ruderalis in it, since that is one more part of the dna chain fucking with the phenos. Popping from seed is enough of a Russian Roulette game hoping that you are going to end up with a stellar pheno. When I grew indoor, I had no problem popping 16-20 seeds of any given strain to pheno hunt, since then you'd clone and have whatever you selected for a mother plant. Since I only do outdoor on a limited once a year basis, I'd rather not throw ruderalis into 30-50% of the genetic profile, since I may be only popping one or two beans of each strain. I have heard the potency isn't as shitty as it once was, but if I want to grow (insert strain here), that is exactly what I'm trying to get as an end product, not a version of it with compromised genetics.

Having said that, no, I have no personal experience with ruderalis.

cool, sounds like you know more than I did this morning...I only dabbled with known genetics from 20-40 year growers in my areas, until I went random and just bought some clones from nurseries/dispensaries this year

high grade herb is like 5-8 bucks a gram right now(oregon has a massive massive surplus, growers outnumber smokers LOL) so i am not putting any time into my outdoor grow this year, that time is better spent working for real $$ instead of trying to save by growing my own supply.

so for me it kinda makes sense as a set it and forget it deal...that is if the potency and smoke is good...my lone one looks really nice for how little effort I am putting in

I don't put a ton of effort into my outdoor, but I just like growing weed. Most is given away to friends once I harvest, I keep a bit for myself and none is sold. Last year I weighed everything out and worked out what 25% would be. I then dropped off everything at my best friend's house with my scale, telling him to pick whatever buds and strains he wants up to the 25% weight. I then did that to two other friends on the following two nights. The remaining 25% left over is what I kept, and to be totally honest, that was way too much since I still have quite a bit left.

Thats great

ya also have similar situation...I still have some 2015,2016,2017 harvest left, so surplus keeps building up...I gift away what is legally possible(16 ounces per year or something like that) cook with some and then smoke/vape some

far more than I can smoke, I am only a single man with two lungs and I smoke less than a gram a day...my lady smokes about a gram a year(liteweight)

At least you keep track of your weed, lol. I forgot about this and found it in a closet about a month ago. No idea how old, but it's got to be 10+ years. It's outdoor for sure based on my sloppy trim job, but no idea what it was (probably j1 or sour d but not positive). Gallon crystal geyser for scale.

Imagine the headache this orange shit would cause. Still need to figure out how to dump it.

OK this is the groundling stump
this one is Night Nurse

some CBD rich strain or something

it is maybe 26 inches tall and 44 inches wide and widening

THE TRUnk is ridiculous for some reason diameter of over 2 inches(its likely thicker than most humans wrists already) and I am not joking(will do circumference sometimes soon)...was a weak tiny tiny clone like 8 weeks back...must have roots near china by now

picture is horrible lol but here it is...will get some better shots later on different device

Yep...2015 don't look so hot anymore(was my first grow in awhile and was a bit premature and cured poorly)...thinking of gifting ounces to bums to trade for stuff...otherwise it is trash

what do you guys think of my lazy grow LOL
been gone on and off for most of the months so it is OK considering
this valley has great growing conditions but fall gets moist a few weeks early for most cannabis strains

thinking of and already should have Sea of Green-ing the two sativa hybrids( I use 4 by 4 inch sheep panels supported by hand cut bamboo posts) that are in the straw and hardware wire planters

the CBD bush on ground is a mutant and is so thick with ridiculous leaves, not sure what it is doing other than growing a trunk and getting wider...anybody know Night Nurse strain?

and the autoflower just is what is it is

Obviously the longer you wait, the less chance you have of actually using it. I'd imagine I had plans for this jar I found, lol. So much for that.

Everything looks nice and healthy for sure. If you sog the ones in straw, you need to dig a hole for them though (3/4 the height of the straw approx), or else to will have a difficult time working with them, unless you build a platform, or want to sketch it out on a ladder while leaning in. I'm wondering if their root ma's has gone into the soil at the same time. Do they have a base? If not, you'll need to get creative since they souldnt be moved.
