Next time:
1. Put a couple of big plastic bags on the floor (you can claim your dog was having bowel issues)
2. Open the door (You can claim that you thought it was Jehovas Witnesses)
3. When he stumbles in light him up. (Old lady next door will identify him as a menace)
4. Live target practice & help clean up the community at the same time. (You might get a medal)

Give him a knock, why hide like a pussy when you have a gun? He's high or drunk, a push will do.
I confronted the guy when he looked like he was trying to go into my house.

I was then secure in my self and my home. The guy then escalated by attempting to enter several times while I was inside.

As a gun owner, I have an ethical and legal responsibility to NOT escalate, given that I have the ultimate ability to end someone's life.

What you are describing is assault, not defense.

I also have worked in plenty of ERs and watched the friendly druggie go from good trip to bad in a blink. Watching someone break restraints is pretty intense. Why would I escalate the guy that might just not know where is ( though he could be a high moron thinking hes gonna rob me) into a guy that wants to freak out, break windows or more?

You have to beware of "bandit travellers"? What exactly is that?

Something like that.

Travellers are an ethnic group of people similar to Gypsies. I think there is about thirty thousand or so, they live in trailers and move from place to place stopping at 'halting sites' or sometimes not moving much. They are an entirely separate society, they say they are descended from the noble class who refused to sign up to British rule back when the original contract was signed. Could be I don't know.

For the most part they are good people but there is a strong undercurrent of criminality, stealing, scamming, prize/dog/cock fighting, drugs, stealing rhino horn from museums for the chinese market, the whole show.

These guys are wanted by Interpol/Europol .

Because opening the door will just escalate further, next thing, splinty's down the station explaining why he shot a drunk guy on his doorstep. Good thing about UK, is with no guns, it's pretty safe to go confront a guy, but in the US? fuck that.
Umm, they have guns in the UK. Not semi auto rifles or handguns, but the reality is a shotgun loaded with 00 Buck does a better job of putting someone down in a real world situation than anything else and they have plenty of those.

Yeah I know they do, but I've got 31 years of my life without seeing any gun outside of armed police in airport and my grandads shotgun, the chances of being killed by a firearm is considerable less than in the U.S. and there's no debating that. But yes, if your being pedantic then we do have firearms but relation to the USA it's a none comparison.

No joke, the place is next to million dollar townhomes and a dude in khakis and polo will wreck your day if you don't pick up after your dog.

This is pretty yuppie area usually.

I wouldn't debate any of that. It's just an observation that people shouldn't walk around under the illusion that it could never happen to them, because it could. Most Canadians would tell that exact same story, but our parliament was still shot up last fall.

If only a higher percentage of gun owners were as responsible.

Yeah, killing a person is pretty awful, especially if there are other ways to prevent it. If there's absolutely no other alternative...

My base level wanted to kick his ass. I probably would have in the heated moment when I saw him try my door. But I was too far away and had my dogs with me. Then what? I live near a busy thoroughfare and they would get loose or hurt. So I get insidenand cooler heads prevail since at that point I was able to create a barrier and have lethal force if needed.

Just the situation still pisses me off because my wife lives here too and if rather the guy bear an ass kicking rather than me bear the continued concern that this is more than a one off drunkie.

I'm still waiting to see if its an unknow neighbor.that'll make things real interesting.
