I bought myself a Henry lever in .22 on Friday. Shot it this morning. I think Academy sports has them on sale for less than 300 bucks. Buy one. Now.

Nice man...that price is right! I have an Academy near my house....need to stop in!
Are going to put a scope on it, or just use the sights?

I’ve been wanting a lever action rifle for a few years, but it just hasn’t been a priority, so I haven’t done much research. I did look at a Marlin a couple years back on a recommendation from a friend, but it seemed cheaply/poorly made (so maybe this is what some others addressed earlier in this thread about their quality control). I kind of wanted a 30-30, but now may just end up getting a 22. If I can find the right 22, I can give it to my son in a few years as his first gun (I still have the Remington Nylon 22 my dad taught me to shoot with).

I came real close a couple years back to buying a CZ bolt action rifle, but it was closer to $800 I think. I like CZ a lot though - quality guns, but not as easy on the wallet.

I'll probably upgrade the sights to something easier for my eyes to pick up than the factory black on black, no scope though. I try to avoid scopes on lever guns, they ruin the beautiful lines. It's just going to be for plinking and maybe a little small game hunting should the opportunity arise.

The funny thing about CZ's is that they're actually very inexpensive guns for what you're getting. My buddy and I are working on getting ourselves a couple of these:

CZ 550 MAGNUM LUX - Magnum - Centerfire Rifles - Products

That’s a great looking rifle. For a specific purpose?

I’ve only ever had CZ handguns, but their rifles have always been attractive to me. I think they make shotguns too. I agree that you get a lot for you money with CZ, they’re well built.

Dude. I live in Canada. It's 18 degrees today. At any minute a cape buffalo could walk through my front door and start bossing me around. You think that's what I want?

I like the Howas for bolt action on a budget. I guess technically I like to bed and hone surplus Mausers for budget bolt-action.
But Howa makes a nice rifle for the $.

You can get a .308 or 300WinMag barreled action for $450 from Brownells.

you could have a .25MOA rifle for <$700

The Weatherby Vanguards are about the same price but a little better finished.

Respectfully disagree.

Where you getting a nice stock for 100 bucks?
I just keep an eye out for sales. Richards Microfit is running an oversupply sale now. You can get a Grade AA Semi-Fancy Claro Walnut with Rosewood Tip and Cap for $120.

Or you can get a laminate in any color you like for $90, any day of the week.

I had Marlin 30-30 back in the day. It was my first hunting rifle. Nothing fancy, just reliable.

Mine will shoot between .5 and .75 with factory ammo. I haven't adjusted the trigger and I'm not a good rifle shot.
you have a .75MOA rifle. I have a .5MOA Mauser that I built. It's .5MOA because it's never shot a group larger than .5MOA

And it's a loooooong way from .75 to .25 using that definition.
