I noticed this gem in one the Atlantic articles that KWingJitsu @KWingJitsu had posted:

Across the country, New Zealanders, unaccustomed to violence on this scale, performed the haka, the traditional Maori dance that has been made famous by the country’s rugby team.
Apparently the Atlantic isn't so big on the research part of journalism.

Well given they probably mean WORLD famous, they're not exactly wrong.
If someone's knowledge of New Zealand is entirely comprised of knowing that they play rugby, then yes. They're correct. They also left out that part that a haka would traditionally be associated with aggression and not mourning. But you know, don't let facts get in the way of a story and all that jazz.

There were numerous types of Haka dances and one of them specifically was associated with death and funerals.

Manawa wera haka
This haka is usually performed at funerals or after somebody’s death. Again, no weapons are used and the movement is more free.
The Maori Haka: Its Meaning & History

And haka has been associated with sports for well over a hundred years.

After about the 50th one I kind of got tired of seeing that stupid dance. People who post these act like it’s the very first one ever posted. They’re overplayed and not unique. Yawn.

Now that some time has passed, can someone in this thread clarify just what a necessary massacre would be?

We’ve never interacted. Let’s make our first discussion in another thread. I’ll tag Thuglife13 @Thuglife13 too - happy to show you my school haka. I’m proud bro.
In fact, if you want to - please start a new thread so we can all contribute to discussing New Zealand culture.

People died. It sucks.
The fact I made this thread sucks.
They’re dead.
Nothing is going to change that.

People do shit to hurt
People do shit to protect.
People do shit to acknowledge.
People do shit to mourn.

Time to let this thread go.

Kia Kaha Aotearoa.

I always thought the thread title was an interesting use of language.

'You've taken this whole murder of innocents thing just a tad too far'.

Fair observation about the thread title.
A combination of shock, and a few beers.

I put fuck all thought towards smacking those few words together.
Grammar, grades, innuendo and intent were not high on my list ;)

The location was New Zealand
Many people were killed
Their death was unnecessary
