makes me think of all the work actual musicians put into writing and recording an album
and someone like me rejects it so quickly

and do the artists who made that album have songs of their own they think suck?

Dave's Song of the Day

Five O'Clock World – The Vogues

Saturday song of the day: Today’s song describes the drudgery of a mind-numbing job, but then describes the joy of life away from work that makes it worthwhile.

In October 1965, a group called The Vogues released a single titled Five O’Clock World, which described the problems of working for a living, and then the relief that came when work ended for the day. The “five o’clock world” of the title leaves the singer joyful for the freedom of his personal life and being able to spend time with his girlfriend.

The record began selling well, and eventually Five O’Clock World peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in late January 1966. This was the band’s second #4 hit, as earlier in 1965, You’re the One attained the same place on the charts. Their later hit is more remembered today, however.

In 1996, The Vogues’ recording of Five O’Clock World was used as the theme song for the second season of The Drew Carey Show. The TV exposure introduced the song to a new audience thirty years after it first hit.
