Pride was doing great business.... in Japan.

Battlecade, KOTC, GC... these orgs would have brought MMA to the prominence it now enjoys?

Am I being trolled here?

You lost, bro. Pick up what's left of your dignity and move on. :D
That interview came out right around the time that the last TUF season was on.

Obviously Lambert is chum with the Zuffa brass now and didn't want to offend them by saying he could have done a better job etc...

Its time to take out the white flag bro.

You lost, but in the long run you actually won because you gained some MMA knowledge today.

I gained because you gave me and I'm sure many others a good laugh.

The part where you compared the ability to run a successful gym to building the UFC and MMA into a mainstream sport? Great material. :D

Creating a sport? You do realize the UFC (and the current ruleset) was established before Zuffa even thought about buying it right?

Right, but when we're talking about a sport going GLOBAL, going MAINSTREAM.... you know there's more to the world than Japan, right?

Have you seen Japan on a map? It's a fairly small - albeit densely populated - island.

Yet they had the best mma league and created the biggest stars in the golden age of mma

But as far as there being no mainstream UFC if there was no Zuffa, that was a lie on my part.

Even if there was no Zuffa or Lambert to buy the UFC, it would have fallen into the hands of Anthony Marcano, who as we obviously all know ran not one but TWO successful McDonald's locations in upstate New York. No doubt he would have had the vision to bring the UFC to glory it now enjoys.

Yes, and they were very big - IN JAPAN.

We're talking about GLOBALIZING a sport. Pride did not globalize the sport.

The reason there are MMA gyms all over the world - in Europe, in South America, in Africa - is because of the UFC. Period. I don't know how I can put it in simpler terms.

How was Zuffa's vision so innovative? SEG was trying to accomplish the same things Zuffa did. Get it sanctioned in Nevada, use Nevada's license to help obtain licenses from other commissions, hold events & continue to slowly grow the sport until it was accepted by the mainstream. All they needed was a tie breaking vote from the NSAC, and guess who that was who changed their "yes' vote to a "no" at the 11th hour (when Dana called & said SEG was going under w/out it), and kept all of this from happening? The same guy that bought it 30 days later. So lets not act like the Fertitta's and Dana did something groundbreaking here. All they did was simply leverage Lorenzo's position on the NSAC to basically destroy any chance that SEG had, so they could poach it on the cheap. That's a fact...JAAAAAAACK. :)

Interesting conspiracy theory, but lets say they did. Why? To spend YEARS losing money pumping funds and resources into this bastard sport that was stigmatized and hemorrhaging money and was an absolute long shot to ever turn a profit? They were the right people at the right time and they had the vision to make the deals necessary and create a product that would go mainstream. You can't argue the facts: Zuffa took a company that nobody gave a shit about, that operated in a sport that nobody gave a shit about, and they turned it into a mainstream thing.

Fans will always say "they didn't do anything creative, the UFC/MMA would have been a great success without them", like any asshole could have done it. Despite the fact that the history of MMA is LITTERED with the corpses of MMA orgs that were not successful and went belly up. And a lot of these orgs popped up and went under after UFC did all the hard work in piquing the public's interest in MMA. There are a lot of great businessmen who entered the MMA industry and failed miserably. So when people say things like "oh anyone could have done what they did", I have to roll my eyes.

Hey, I get it. Down with "the maaaaaan", hate the big guy, down with authority, and all that other stuff. Like I said I don't agree with all of their choices. I wish the fighters got paid more. We can talk about hypotheticals and who could do what all day, but the fact is Zuffa DID it.

Why do you think the only people on the planet humanly possible of running a mma org work for zuffa LLC?

It's not a conspiracy theory. It's a documented fact. Do some research and you'll find we're not just making this shit up on the fly.

The only reason that Zuffa was succesful was because they had deep enough pockets to be able to absorb the $30 million loss and still hang in there (even though they too were looking to sell).

They probably were looking for a way to launder casino money

I seem to remember it being $50 million......and Lorenzo calmly stated something to close to this: "I thought that was it, let's cut our losses, we've got to move on, I have given Dana the OK to try to sell it back to art Davie for $6 million"
