Why do you think the only people on the planet humanly possible of running a mma org work for zuffa LLC?
At the time the Dana approached the Fertitta's about buying the UFC it was close to bankruptcy. There are other businessmen who could have saved the UFC with their deep pockets, connections and excellent credit scores but they didn't come to the rescue because they didn't give a damn about mma. They didn't understand it. It was a company millions of dollars in the red. Dana already had his foot in the mma door as a manager for Tito and Liddel and knew what the potential was.

I don't think it's unreasonable to believe the UFC wouldn't be the biggest mma organization in the world without the Fertitta's and Dana. It all worked out perfectly.

What are we arguing about?

It's hosted publicly on YouTube, so I dont see how there would be any legal issues with sharing it.

One of the most dramatic moments of the recent CNBC special, From Bloodsport to Big Time, was the scene in which Bob Meyrowitz claimed that Lorenzo Fertitta, a member of the Nevada State Athletic Commission at the time, blocked regulation of the UFC, essentially forcing Meyrowitz to sell the company to the Fertittas and Dana White. Lawyers for Zuffa immediately contacted CNBC and got the segment pulled from subsequent airings.

In The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer recently offered what he believes to be the accurate version of the story, partly based on his first hand knowledge, as well as the story of the early history of Zuffa. The highlights according to Meltzer:

“I don’t know which commissioner it was, but the commissioner who had the 11th hour change of mind that caused Meyrowitz to pull out was not Feritta,” Meltzer wrote. It is interesting to note that one of the other commissioners during this period was Gina Carano’s father, Glenn.
hmm thats interesting. I always thought it was Lorenzo that voted NO. So according to Meltzer it wasn't Lorenzo? Meyrowitz got it wrong?

I'm sure it does. I'm not a businessman or lawyer, I'm just some asshole. The fuck do I know? ;)

It looks like I'm outnumbered so I'll concede defeat for now... but I will be lying in the wait, hoping for this lawsuit to fail and when it does I'll salute the black, white and gold of the Zuffa flag because I, for one, welcome our new vulgar, bald overlord.
hehe.

I know you think fighter pay is bad right now, I'm curious to know how do you think the fighters should fix that?

If the UFC makes 100 million a year and the total fighter payout is lets say 25 million what do you think the fighters should do to get paid better?

To me, that's just the UFC being the best at what they do. It's the same thing in pro wrestling with the WWE. There are plenty of MMA organizations around, some with TV deals. As a layman, I have to think why is it the UFC's problem that they're more successful than other promotions? That they have more brand value than a Bellator or a KOTC?

I want the money paid to the fighters to be increased, but I'm very uncomfortable with outside parties coming in and dictating how the UFC runs it's business. I have serious fears that it's going to bleed the sport.
Read a history book on sports Danny--your fears will be allayed. You are like a cliche version of owners in all the major sports--before the changes happened. Have those sports disappeared? Been met with doom and gloom?

They have thrived. . . along with the athletes.

Yeah but we're talking about a sport vs. a company, and as far as I know the legislations passed helped protect fighters from being swindled by being scammed by promoters and managers, it never said anything about "likeness" rights or the things this suit seems to be asking for.
Boxing had competition--protected by the passage of that act (the Ali Act). Why don't boxing promoters secure the rights Zuffa extracts? Are they more generous? Are they stupid?

Or would the boxer tell them to go pound sand if they attempted to obtain because he has numerous other options?

Those are team sports though. MMA - even though there are teams - has always been an individual hustle, and I just can't see a guy like Conor McGregor agreeing to give up a nice % of his earnings to a fighter's union so some guys on the undercard can get paid more. Rousey spoke out against the fighter's union 3 years ago. The highest paid fighters - the one's with the bargaining power - are happy as they are.
another absurdity.

Brady can opt out of the NFLPA at any time--he doesn't--Kershaw can opt out of the MLBPA--at any time--he doesn't. Why is that? Could it be--they benefit the most?

If the Ali Act came into being covering MMA--who would benefit the most? Would it be an undercard fighter--or Conor McGregor?

Who would benefit most from control of likeness--an undercard fighter--or Jon Jones?

Another little secret--did you know the other sports associations do not fund operations with dues?

Different model though, bro. All done with different promoters (essentially guys from two different "companies" can fight). A boxing card will have a main event and 2-4 prelim fights. The average UFC card has what, 9-10 fights or more? It's just a different business model.
Correct Danny! It is a different model--one that is patently illegal in all other sports. . . but is being done in MMA.

Other than that--no difference.

Of course he would say this. It doesn't push his agenda to say nobody seems to care except for a few disgruntled ex UFC fighters.
Of course!

I've heard this for 10 years.

I heard this after the ESPN piece--Maysey inventing his sources--Maysey doesn't speak to anyone, Maysey doesn't know anything. . .

Oops.

The UFC isn't obligated to give a fighter who is currently under suspension, any fights at all.

The Wand issue is totally irrelevant to all this.

Wand knew the game he was playing when he sprinted from the gym and fled the country while making angry weird YouTube videos.

Just think, if he would have actually took the test, he probably would already be off suspension.

The lawsuit however, I support 100%
Cung Le isn't suspended--has expressed his desire to fight outside the UFC, and was not released. Hmmm.

Union, association, league of super friends, whatever. The main fact is that it failed.

So Dana said = not true?

Do you think these fighters go through the media tours for fun? You're arguing what Dana said and your evidence is what you think Diaz would or wouldn't do as a fan who has probably never met the guy.
it failed?

Do ideas die?

Is there a shot clock?

No? Then your main fact is in fact not a fact.

I don't care if Dana makes less money. I think he should be paying more money out to the fighters. My point is, I am HIGHLY doubtful that that's the only thing that would come out of a fighter's association run by a bunch of lawyers.

...what? Are we doing University exam analogies now?

Zuffa is to MMA as NBA is to Basketball... what?

Come again now?
Run by a bunch of lawyers?

The associations in all sports/SAG/Unions are run by the members--who decide on direction by vote.

The lawyers are not members. . . and thus, do not vote.

i would think rousey and conor would be hard to get into an association because no telling what under hand amounts of money they receive from zuffa

Listen, I don't know you personally so I don't want to come across as chucking shit at you because I'm sure you're a nice guy and that you mean well, even if I don't agree with your tactics.

But the fact is, you started it with a specific goal in mind, you wanted to reach a certain level of power and influence with it. It was a bust. It fell flat on it's face. It's dead in the water. The idea is irrelevant. It has no influence on MMA.

You'd have to agree that it failed to meet the goals you had in mind when you started it. Maybe it's not dead... maybe it's cryogenically frozen in a lab somewhere, and you can thaw it out in the future and maybe reach your goals with it. But right now, it's in the Fail bin. Not trying to be disrespectful, just stating facts.

I know I'm in the minority here in regards to your lawsuit. I don't mind because it's a tricky situation and mostly everyone means well. I think we've all reached an agree to disagree situation.

I wish you guys all the best personally, but my opinion hasn't changed. I hope Zuffa destroys this lawsuit in court and spends as little money as possible doing it.

So after showing where your facts are wrong, you still aren't swayed. So really, no matter what anyone says you have this idea stuck in your head..... Or you're a bigger Dana white/zuffa fan than you are an MMA fan......... Which is odd.

Where was I shown my facts are wrong? What facts? I'm just a guy who thinks this lawsuit and a hypothetical union/association have the potential to do more harm that good. If people think I'm wrong, cool. If I am wrong, so be it. We'll have to wait and see.

Personally, I think this lawsuit is going to be won by Zuffa, and I'll be happy when it does. If people disagree with me, cool.

Telling me a union did great things for the NFL means nothing to me because they are entirely different things.

So you want zuffa to not pay the fighters more? Would you rather see high level athletes fighting each other or Instagram pictures of Dana whites snowy driveway?

You're insinuating that this lawsuit/a hypothetical union/association are the only ways in which the fighters are going to be paid more, and I flat out reject that notion.

So again I'll ask you, where were my "facts" debunked, and what facts were they?

I think some fighter pay is bad right now, not all. I'm totally fine with most of the pay outs, especially to the rookies. I feel certain top level guys - Mighty Mouse for example - should be paid more.
