He said trying to stop it "is like trying to stop the wind".

Beside that I can't speak for him.
Just take my posts for the narrow intention - respiratory droplet cough and cold viruses in a community. Like I said above. Airplane? Cruise ship? Things where the air is being recycled and aerosolized with a large number of people in a small space? I dunno. Beats me.
Does coronavirus have some airborne properties that isn't understood by the larger medical consensus? If so, huge difference and a game changer.

Wear your mask when you are sick.
Hand a fresh mask to unmasked sick people.
Shame your friends and family for running around coughing all over the place when they are sick, unless they are on their way to pick up a mask.

Cough in to your elbow.
Wash your dirty ass hands.

So am I going to die or is this just a geezer apocalypse?

You can bet your sweet asshole that khabib v tony is either cancelled or done in a empty arena. But I dont think danus will give up the gate money on one of the most anticipated fights ever

Can I still share needles with homeless prostitutes?

Ya, take precautions is what I will encourage and practice.
I am not in the arguing about mask thing...I think they make a difference if used properly.

Wasn't saying you or the JRE guy were right or wrong.
Just relaying that the way he spoke, it was as an airborne virus in his opinion.

He also wrote a book about this exact type of thing rising out of China, and also a book about a big terror event shortly before 9-11...so my eyebrows raised and I take what he has to say with a grain of salt. He may have his narrative already set/biased.

Look, show your cards or I don't have time to wring it out of you.

You said " They aren't sealed, which means air passes through them both directions. They're useless for preventing spread of disease."

Surgical masks are not useless for preventing the spread of disease. And especially not because they allow air through both sides.
So, you said that in the case of a healthy person it can increase the chance of them becoming sick. In the case of people with visible symptoms, it doesn't completely stop transmission. Then we factor in a 2 week period where an individual is both infected and showing no symptoms and I can state with relative confidence that they're useless in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

basically all sporting event crowds are over for now...NCAA tournament won't have crowds I heard, empty gyms is the plan for now.

I think lots of Orgs are protecting themselves from liability down the line if an outbreak or deaths are linked to their event.

Sucks but true.

In a resp droplet disease...

Healthy people shouldn't wear mask.

Sick people should.

Infected and showing no symptoms doesn't equate to viral shedding. We need data on viral shedding that we don't currently have. But I digress.

Regardless, if someone is shedding virus for X before they show symptoms and Y while they are showing symptoms, wearing a mask reduces others getting sick around them throughout the Y period. That's incredibly important and PREVENTS THE SPREAD OF DISEASE. The exact opposite of your statement about them being useless. They are not useless. It's crucially important to slow the spread for all the same reasons we try to slow the spread of flu each season.

Dana might have no choice in the matter, when higher powers shutdown all major public events. Wait and see

This isn't an airborne disease.

I can neither confirm nor deny that.
I like everyone am hoping it's not airborn or retero.
I'm acting as if it's both, and I still likely am or will be infected.
But the prep may save others, and my will is gonna make everyone happy!

I hope you're right, but the way they've covered this up as far so far idk...

Splinty @Splinty we previously discussed drinking water. You stated that warm water had no benefits whatsoever. I'm not disputing that, but I am hearing more and more about water intake being beneficial. Paraphrasing here- Being a respiratory virus, drinking fluids carries spores from your throat to digestion where they're irradiated. As opposed to not being hydrated (dry mouth/throat) which promotes spores being carried to your respiratory system.

Thoughts?

According to the Germans, high amounts of shedding occur early in the infection:

People 'shed' coronavirus early, but most likely not infectious after recovery

I have no expectation that being hydrated harms you. Hydrate away!
Given the permeability of the mucous membranes of your nares, pharynx, larynx, and lungs I don't think that drinking 6-8 cups of water a day or making it a point to drink 10-12 or any other particular amount to stay tip top will make a clinical difference. You get infected the same. Are there extremes? I can absolutely imagine there is. Your body needs hydration Lots don't drink enough water and are drinking sodas all day.

But I don't know and I have no data either way. I actually tried to find data after your post on this. I could find none so this is all just based on physiology of viruses entering cells. Your normal nare gets infected when someone snots all over you whether its wet or not. You inhale droplets they go into your airway, not your stomach.

Regardless, Coronavirus has no spores.

Hydrate away, don't let me stop you. And I don't know anything to say otherwise.

Unrelated but during my research, I also read that beverages with an alcohol content of 5% or under will keep you hydrated where an alcohol content above 5% will dehydrate.
