What'd he do now?
They're running events in empty facilites. Fighters don't get paid if fights are cancelled, and fans have jack shit to do fi there's no sport to watch. NBA/NHL/etc are wholesale postponing because they want those tickets sales, concessions, etc. I have no illusions that he's doing this to be virtuous, but given the current situation it's the best compromise sports fans have been offered, when you consider that we've all been told to sit at home, in front of the television, I'm appreciative.

Seasonal flu kills 291,000 to 646,000 people worldwide each year, according to a new estimate that's higher than the previous one of 250,000 to 500,000 deaths a year. The new figures from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other groups were published Dec. 13 in The Lancet medical journal.

Just to keep things in perspective. And nothing is shutting down for those half a million dead ppl every year.
This is true and people should keep that in context. We live with a lot of bad infection stuff and people take deadly flu lightly, even though swine flu is around still. But I've got a vaccine for that too if I want it.

This Coronavirus disease is not as deadly as has been proffered early on with SARS-like references of 10% death rates, which came from China not knowing wtf this new thing was and limited testing. It's not 50x as contagious. But it isn't the same as seasonal flu. It looks like Pandemic flu, which is deadlier but not world ending. S Korea and others have shown that you can test a bunch and get the death rate down. You should be concerned that we still aren't testing.

Wash your nasty hands and stay home to not spread this stuff faster. It's actually pretty easy to flip from Italy (15x flu death) to S Korea (1-2x flu death). But it appears testing needs to be part of that strategy to maintain a modern western country and we still aren't testing at a large enough scale to respond. If you don't test, you have to assume. If you assume then you have to assume worst case. Sooo do you then get China lock downs ( sparkuri @sparkuri help me!!!!!!!).

Don't take this as nothing and don't panic. Find ways to stay home maximally. Help others do the same. That's the fix here. Do that for the next 3-4 weeks. If not, you get system overruns. And while the disease didn't change, you've hacked the western healthcare system.

EDIT - I want to add, SHAME others for going out. Not just help them stay in. I'm in Texas watching machismo dudes tell me they aren't worried about it and going to the bar. Mofo, I'm not worried about it either, but the numbers are clear. It's easy to just NOT go to the bar/club and slow the spread so the system can respond.

Currently watching Super Bowl 32 on YouTube - Elway just connected with Eddie McCaffrey!

In other news ...

Walz to close all Minnesota public schools for 8 school days, starting Wednesday, for COVID-19 – Twin Cities
Eddie Mac was amazing...that block he lays in that super bowl and his point is legendary IMO

I remember him breaking his leg in a night game on sept 10th 2001
Woke up the next morning to my dad's friend calling and he says "turn on the TV, tell your dad to turn on the TV...Those fuckers blew it up!...then he hangs up on me"...My dad just went to work like normal haha.

Those are my best and worst Ed McCaffrey memories!

yeah but trump gives tw o shits about empty audience because these next events are espn events. its in their contract to do it. they are already paid for by espn. it is also the reason why espn has watered down fight bouts. it is paid for, he is not going to give them that many good fights..he saves most of them for pay per views seperate from espn.

these espn cards are extra cards ufc wouldnt have. it is why so many shitty fights are on them. nba, etc, is different.. they depend on a audience to survive by attending, buying merchandise . they pay their players 50x what they pay ufc fighters..especially these fighters on espn cards. not to mentipon nba players have tested positive for coronavirus. they spread it to others and the season is fucked

NBA and NHL depend on tv contracts, not live gate.

It's gone up 6000% in a couple months.
Swine flu killed a few ppl and we didn't shut the world down. Not trying to argue this thread into the ground. This just doesn't seem much different than anything else to me. I'll step away

Fatalities in the United States - Estimated total is 12,469. Fatalities Worldwide - A 2012 study estimated a range between 151,700 and 575,400 deaths. Swine Flu: Swine flu is a respiratory disease caused by type A influenza virus in pigs.Jun 5, 2019

nba is a team sport. they had to shut it down when players tested positive for coronavirus. if it spreads to other players in the locker room. their entire season would be fucked. and no one is going to attend shows in fear of the virus anyway. they have no choice..it makes more sense to temporarily suspend

They could have tested and underwent self isolation protocols. Instead of saying "We're taking a week off to sort shit out and we'll be back with the healthy players." They told the fans to go fuck themselves. If you want it to be even more obvious look at the NCAA and March Madness.

are you following this virus thing. not how it works. they fly and travel, etc.. how do you expect nba teams to go to multiple locations unlike one mma pay per view where fighters fight 4 x a year max but most fight 2x a year. nba players travel a lot.

I've been sending my dad texts asking him to not go to church. He's the kind of guy who insists on hugging every time he comes and goes and thrives in social settings. He's late 60s with heart issues and believes Jesus is the answer for everything. Incredibly frustrating during times like this.

Yes, it is. You might want to look into the incubation times for it.

I would not go to a Church right now. Not for threat at this moment but to begin that exercise for the next month.
Churches here have online streams. I think that's a great example of a solution available with minimal impact.

Are you guys doing the drivethru testing that we copied from them?
Austin has or is about to have one.
Drive through testing is genius.

Also now that I think about it, restaurants should just all flip to take out orders and promote it.
