Interestingly, SC MMA MD @SC MMA MD is probably more comfortable with that idea than many people that deal with adults. He sees heart kids and they often have goal oxygen saturations that are astonishingly low and the kids are just going around doing very fine. And if you try to over oxygenate them to get them to a "normal" level you can do harm to them.
This is true. A good portion of our congenital heart disease patients have goal saturation’s in the 80’s and live in the 70’s or 80’s for years.
These kids are starting off with saturation’s like that from the womb, so they initially have high percentages of fetal hemoglobin and then run high hematocrits as an adaptation to the lowers SaO2. It would be interesting to see if there could be a role for permissive hypoxia to some degree in COVID-19 patients.

You don't have to be pro or anti military to discuss this. This isn't a conversation that has to lead to that team sport positioning.

I once helped shoot 20,000+ rounds into the dark ostensibly under the auspices of "night time weapons familiarization".

That make sense until you realize:
Too many rounds were ordered. It was night time without tracer rounds or NVG. The range wasn't running so now targets. Someone would have to inventory those sensitive items if they weren't all shot by the end of the weekend.

It doesn't take too much to realize we were just wasting this stuff because someone wanted to be a little lazy.
You have to shoot your allotment of ammo or your unit gets less next year. We did the same thing with fucking $30k artillery rounds. That was fun.

He's 4 inches taller than me, weighs 100lbs more and carries it all in his 38 inch waist (low center of gravity), and will make you wish for unconsciousness the longer you are around him.

I don't stand a chance.
I didn't know that little people could become medical professionals.

DOUBLE BURN!!! BOOM ROASTED!!!

(For those keeping score at home, that was me calling Splinty @Splinty the "N word" for Little People, and insinuating that @conor mcgregor nut hugger is also a small man himself......... Some of you here I just don't know about, I swear, you're like a bunch of retarded midgets)

Apology accepted
but this one seems like the chain of command is just trying to cover its ass.
Just a heads up, those the defend the Captain in Congress acknowledge he went outside the chain of command.

full statement here
HASC Leadership Joint Statement on the Dismissal of U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt Captain

“While Captain Crozier clearly went outside the chain of command, his dismissal at this critical moment – as the Sailors aboard the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt are confronted with the COVID-19 pandemic – is a destabilizing move that will likely put our service members at greater risk and jeopardize our fleet’s readiness.

“The COVID pandemic presents a set of new challenges and there is much we still do not know. Captain Crozier was justifiably concerned about the health and safety of his crew, but he did not handle the immense pressure appropriately. However, relieving him of his command is an overreaction.

That is the closest thing to corroborating evidence you can get. They're against the firing and would have been happy to point out that he followed the appropriate steps.

That leaves just opinions on risks and benefits on removal (at this time anyways). But it doesn't appear to be some Navy Department cover up. Quite the opposite.

The statement there suggests the Navy setup Captain Crozier for failure by not giving him enough training and guidance on responding to COVID19 threat. That's a reasonable focus for leadership decisions, but doesn't change the Captains actions.

Like Sex Chicken @Sex Chicken and your step mom...Agree to disagree?

I read that last week. It's possible he lacks the documentation that proves he reported it as he should have and that nothing was done. Unlikely but possible. I'm not sure how such reporting would take place and if there would be a written record of it. I'm guessing there would be.

I just don't see why a guy who was on his way to becoming admiral would throw his military career away unless he thought the problem was too big to simply "fall in line and wait for orders". That he tested positive for COVID-19 may add some weight to this speculation.

I'm not sure that his career is over nor do I think this was 'f it all' moment by him. It's a memo that shouldn't have been sent like it was and either intentionally or accidentally became a public spectacle as direct result. It makes sense to me that he can't stay in that position once his actions turned that into a public spectacle. I think his memo is very professional and if he was penalized just for that, it seems an egregious response. But if indeed, the upcoming Navy internal investigation finds the same as the above, that he failed to do the early steps appropriately, this isn't just the Navy saving face. It's moving a guy that has set the wrong tone in how to get things done.

Do you think the world will panic if he passes away? Is he a big enough figurehead to get everyone's attention that this is dangerous?

I think it would have a massive impact. But the press release is saying and I quote

'on the advice of his doctor the pm has been admitted to hospital for tests.

This is a precautionary step, as the pm continues to have persistent symptoms of corona ten days after testing positive.'

I would say it must be more than precautionary to go into hospital.

He could have the best doctors attend number 10. This feels like it's serious but not death serious.

No, he is seven types of cunt.

I don't want him to die but I'd be happy enough to see him suffer. His lack of planning, indifference and herd plan makes him quite an easy target for schadenfreude.
