NDP. Canada is not Canada under Stephen Harper.
where does NDP stand on weed legalization or they for or against it?

I still haven't read up on the other parties totally. Have to do that this weekend. All i know is that Harper is not the way to go with his bad decisions and how he doesn't like to talk to media to explain his position on things.

They want to decriminalize, which sucks because people will still get ticketed/fined for possession, and all the pot money still goes to organized crime.
great point. we need to kill that black market. too many shootings for it.

Yeah their stance on decriminalization versus legalization isn't great. I don't smoke weed but it's still an important issue of freedom, personal autonomy, unnecessary crime, and hell, so much wasted tax revenue. Absurd that it's even a debate. But Justin's stance on C51 and TPP outweighs that for me personally. I ain't mad at him though, if he wins I'll join the Ewok celebration. I just want Harper's evil empire over.

Grrrrr Harper's contemptuous refusal to discuss major issues like abortion and disproportionately murdered/missing Native women is so infuriating.

I might be wrong, but hasn't weed been decriminalized in Vancouver for quite a while? It's obviously a weak substitute for legalization if so, because drug wars are getting people's asses shot off in Oakridge on the regular.

its not legal in BC, its just that the police chiefs and political leaders have come out and said that they arent going after pot users and minor growers. they have better things to take care of.

Vancouver, and BC in general, have given the big fuck you to Harper and his ideologies. thats why we can operate legal (well, legal in the sense of local laws and outlook) dispensaries and smoking cafes without the repercussions Harper preaches about constantly.

Yeah that's how it seems. It's an outrageous and wildly outdated prohibition.

like, no shit, I literally just got a text from one of my friends that owns a dispensary in Vancouver offering up $125 ounces of AAA Lemon Hash Plant.

he sends me texts weekly with his menu haha.

Yeah I'm not a big weed guy, haven't smoked in years, but for it to still be illegal is a fucking joke. Was a bouncer back 8 years ago, and anyone here who has done that knows that if everyone smoked weed instead of drinking, snorting coke, downing pills, ect, being a bouncer would be an easy job because people high on weed are usually pretty cool to deal with.

Harper recently came out and said marijuana is "infinitely" worse than tobacco. He's a total cunt.

I was just doing some reading. NDP intends to do $15 a day childcare, that's a horrendously bad idea. Cutting corners with child care doesn't end well.

The NDP are pretty much out of the race now, they nosedived in the polls over the last few weeks so now it's neck and neck with Trudeau and Harper at about 33% apiece with the NDP running at about 24%.

Polls have also said that those who support the NDP acknowledge the Liberals as their second choice, so I hope Trudeau can pick up the NDP vote and get that final push to get Harper out of there.

I think they meant parents would only pay $15 and the rest would be subsdized by the government to some other level, not that you'd end up with sketchy 60 kids in a basement daycare, though many parents do that now.

Isn't it interesting that none of us so far is voting Green?

In my area the race is Con vs NDP, but anywhere else I'd vote strategically against Harper and worry about who I personally liked best later. Because fuck that creep.

Anyway early voting today. Gonna get it done!

Any place with a good recap of where all the parties stand?

I tried to watch the debate but got bored.

Plus that white heavy background. who chose that? Its like the debate took place in a dream sequence. :confused2:

In Quebec they have $7 childcare. They've run into 3 pretty large problems. 1) Not enough qualified staff. 2) Not enough money to pay qualified staff 3) Not enough spots. The initial plan was to phase out private daycares and have a growth of not for profit centers, but as soon as they made daycare essentially free there became a huge demand so the sketchy basement daycare scenario you mentioned is essentially what they've ended up with.

I don't find the Green party voting thing all that interesting, their platforms are appallingly at odds with themselves. It doesn't help that they recently changed a bunch of them not because of a party change in attitude, but because they were being raked over the coals publicly.

I do wonder about the daycare feasibility too. It's not my hill to die on, I kept my kid at home, but it's a huge problem for a lot of people I know.

I've never trusted the Green platform myself because their ideas seem, to me, jarringly out of touch with the realities of living in a resource-based country.

And that's my concern. Parties selling ideas that sound great, but are going to be detrimental. The GST reduction immediately comes to mind. It saves consumers peanuts a year, but costs the government billions.

For me it was their, recently changed, archaic stances on things like abortion. "We love the environment and pot, but women have to be chained to their stoves."

Totally agree on tax reductions. It's a sucker's bet.

Yeah! Elizabeth May is so weird about women's rights. I don't like her in general, but that issue, the nerve of a woman of her age, ambition, and power lecturing other women to have a pile of babies, makes me want to chew my own hand off.

I heard her on the CBC a few years ago quite dismissively handling the job concerns of BC millworkers, essentially treating them as though it was their own fault they got involved in a dying industry instead of, I don't know, going into the pure oxygen information industry at age 50. Uh, our industries don't have to die if we manage and process our resources in our own country? Her condescension rankles.

I saw some of that thinking by the Conservative gov here in Ottawa. They started slashing gov jobs left and right.

"These are redundant jobs, see ya later"

Um, now local unemployment is way up, those people aren't qualified to do anything else, you're not retraining them and the savings of those salaries to tax payers across the country is minimal at best.

"But tax cuts!!!!"
