The windows are clearly different between these two scans, but this is what the lung fields should look like:
looking at that scan again, there is a cannula in the SVC and complete collapse of the airway at the end of the ET tube. That scan was done while the patient was on ECMO, and there was either a mechanical problem at the tip of the ETT or they were on minimal ventilator settings.

The scan that's all white, do you see them like that in pneumonia cases or is this much worse?
WAY worse- however like I mentioned above, this patient appears to be cannulated and on ECMO, I can’t recall ever seeing a CT from a patient who was actually on ECMO at the time of the scan. Regardless, very impressive to see essentially no airspace in the lungs.

2) keeping the ICUs from being overwhelmed is the goal. This is what success looks like.
