He hasn't started any of the finish work yet...

I'm sure you just have them tacked in there for now, but be sure to use some carriage bolts to attach the band boards to the posts. Galvanized.All joists are now in. Slowly making progress.

I tied the bottom of 6x6's into the joists by boxing them in on all 4 sides. Going to run carriage bolts thru the top beams like you said. Painting them black before installing.

Is that easy to do? If not, I'm notching the deck boards around them.

Really easy even @Splinty could do it. Should just have to cut with hacksaw and a couple elbows and maybe a straight run of down spout.
