The danger is in younger, asymptomatic people infecting the more vulnerable members of society.
Can you imagine if there was some state where a bunch of young people go to party and vacation and a bunch of old people go to retire all in the same community?

That really sounds like the worst setup for a bad outcome possible

You (Texas) have us beat by 7 million people in terms of population, but never underestimate the stupidity of Florida. We haven't had any 5,000-case days yet but do not think we're incapable of it.

Texas had a 5k + day yesterday. The moving average over the last several days is 4038 new case per day....crazy.

I have noticed a lot of people that just simply got complacent and quit doing everything they should be. I've been working near some smaller towns outside of Austin, and these more rural areas didn't have hardly any cases throughout the whole ordeal. As a result, I have found these small communities to be more lax on following the protocols. But now they have opened up everywhere and it spreading like crazy. Where I was working a couple of weeks ago, there is a country style restaurant with an outdoor beer garden area and a stage for music. I would drive by everyday and the place would be packed with 100s of people, and hardly anyone wearing masks and definitely not socially distancing. So now this little community that had hardly any cases for three months, has hundreds of cases now. I think this county only had 6 cases throughout the last 3 months, and now in the last 2-3 weeks they have almost 2000 cases.

Stay safe down there Dr. @Splinty. Looks like Harris County has almost 20x the cases we've had here in Travis County. I have a question for you: I'm working on some projects in several counties that have lots of construction workers from all over (lots of them from out of town or state to work on the project). There have now been a couple situations were multiple workers on the construction crew have tested positive. Who takes the "credit" for their case? Does the case just get assigned to whatever county they were tested + in?

I had to get tested in Miami-Dade county because the Broward testing sites all went full retard.

It disappointed me that I couldn't give my county credit for the testing me (if that's indeed how it's tallied), but on the other hand if I end up having rona then I'm glad Miami-Dade will get the blame.

Which test did you get? Is for the antibodies? Did you have a potential exposure, or have symptoms? Or just testing to know?

There’s only one testing center here, and other than that I think you only get a test from a doctor if you have symptoms. I’ve had several people tell me that they asked for a test, but their doctor didn’t want to “waste” a test if they didn’t have corona symptoms. But I’ve also heard others say they got a test no problem and we’re able to get their peace of mind. So I don’t know, but I’ve heard the main testing center is total madness. One location for 2 million residents

Someone also told me that some pharmacy’s are now offering take home treats that you can send in (or drop off?) for non-urgent situations. I haven’t looked into that, so not sure what the deal is there.

You can get antibody testing done by labcorp for $10 if you want that kind of test.

Normal nasal swab test. Most testing locations in my area now offer testing to all patients, regardless of symptoms. There are a number of state sites that have drive-thru or walk-up testing. 100% free.

No symptoms, just wanted to know/wanted peace of mind because I'll be attending my youngest niece's birthday party this weekend.

Texas seems a bit behind the rest of the nation when it comes to testing. No offense to you. Full offense to @Splinty and ThatOneDude @ThatOneDude

You aren't wrong, it was difficult to find testing near me, we went with the labcorp test because thats all we seemed to be able to get.

So my niece's birthday party is this Saturday at my other brother's house. He lives in Palm Beach County, which just today passed a face mask mandate for all public spaces

@Splinty thoughts on this? Forum know-it-all (know-nothing irl) Filthy @Brian Ortega's Goon Hand said that high humidity has no effect on COVID-19

Somewhere out there is a meta-analysis of different models related to heat and humidity. The information seemed to indicate probable decrease in transmission with high enough heat. however given that this was not strongly indicated across all studies it's likely that any effect is probably measurable but modest, And with it the increase in transmission due to social variations will have a much bigger impact

California is gonna hit 6,000 today. They want that 11,115 record set by NY on April 15.

East coast-west coast rivalry still strong after all these years...
