That's a bit of a stretch but in the beginning there were reports that they may not help (bullshit) and that wearing them may lead to people touching their faces more to adjust the mask which could then increase the risk of getting it.

Yeah your post stretched the truth quite a bit. People were told that wearing masks improperly might cause more harm than good.
In my opinion mask use was only cautioned because, as this article mentions, officials were concerned about a mask shortage for emergency service workers, but they've done a poor job communicating this volte-face now that shortages aren't a problem.
What's the story here?

Details on why I need the rapid test?
I was around someone in my inner circle that most likely has contracted it (awaiting results) but I can't in good conscious do my job if I'm a possible carrier. Just found out this morning that they were exposed and are getting tested. I'm supposed to be in 3 surgeries tomorrow morning and then teaching a group of people about a new product that we have. So while I feel fine and dandy I'd prefer to have a bit of science, even if it's a bit faulty, on my side to confirm that I don't have it.

Fauci has already outright admitted they were lying because they didn't want people hoarding masks. It is coming back to haunt them now.
But deliberately not doing something you should do just because someone in authority lied to you initially is even more spastic as blindly following authority. It's the logic of a rebellious teenage girl.
