Unknown risk versus known harms and benefits. Life is about risk stratification, not absolutes.
agreed, but Precautionary Principle. The idea that we should send all our kids back to school and see what happens is insane.

And it's a choice we're being forced to make because we lacked leadership (from both parties). We could have used just one of the $6T we printed, every school in America would have $10M and 5 months to figure out distance-learning by September.

I'm homeschooling for the next year.

I specifically mentioned younger children where distance learning is the most sub-par and school risk is the lowest.

you didn't stratify 'young', but those are also the ones for whom the loss of learning for a few months is least impactful over their lifetime. And they're also the ones for whom the impacts of 'lifetime effects' would be greatest.

Considering how little we know about this virus, combined with how bad what we do know is, I'm doing everything rationally possible to avoid exposing anyone in my family to it. I just think the pool of people who don't have a choice has grown exponentially due to a failure of leadership.

we're talking about 3-6 months of alternative learning, Nancy Grace.
School's got closed in March. If we add 6 months to today, that would be a total of 10 months away from their peers. You're also pretending that the educational component is the most impotant part of childhood development which shows how completely out of your depth you are on the subject.

that's not how precautionary principle works.
You're my favorite kind of religious zealot. Is this like that time you accused a bunch of people of Dunning Kruger and then when I said it to you your reply was that "Accusing someone else of it proves that it's actually you who has it!" ?

A good plot twist would be if David Dunning and Justin Kruger turned out to be retards.

You strike me as just the kind of guy to craft an open letter to them about how they both suffer from the Dunning-Kruger Effect. Yes, I'm being serious.

And we've moved to the part of the show where everybody is so meta in their sarcastic impression mocking their opponent that they are now arguing the opposite point of view and everybody else gets tired of the thread and closes the website.
