A thread for eerie and creepy - but NOT gory - photos. Should/will be updated semi-regularly. Contributions welcome, but no gore, no horrific injuries etc.



The crew of Space Shuttle Challenger on their way to board the doomed shuttle. 76 seconds after takeoff it exploded, killing all of them....... but not instantly.

Omagh bombing. The red car contains a bomb that killed 29 people and injured 220. The man and the child both survived. The photographer didn't.

14 year old Keith Sapsford hid in the wheel bay of a flight from Sydney to Japan. Amateur photographer John Gilspin was testing his new camera lens, and captured Sapsford falling to his death.

Teacher Dave Sanders evacuating kids from Columbine High School. A few minutes after this photo was taken, he was shot twice in the chest and bled out in a classroom over a couple of hours, while the cops waited outside and didn't enter the school building until more than 3 hours after both killers had committed suicide. Sanders was the only adult killed.

Rugby team on Uruguayan Flight 571, before it crashed in the Andes and the survivors infamously resorted to cannibalism of the dead to survive until being rescued 72 days after the crash.

Dashcam of TransAsia Flight 235 about to crash into the Keelung River in Taiwan. 15 out of 58 people survived the crash.

Gilles Leclerc and Marianne Labanane take a selfie at the Bataclan Theatre as they wait for the Eagles of Death Metal to perform. A few minutes later, four gunmen stormed the venue and killed and mutilated 90 people. Marianne survived, Gilles did not.

Darsh Patel took this photo while hiking. A few minutes later, the bear killed him.

Nicholas Mevoli after his last free dive (no oxygen.) He completed the dive, surfaced, gave the OK signal and tried to speak, but passed out instead. He never regained consciousness, and died the same day from a pulmonary edema.

Family takes a nice picture at Niagara Falls. The random girl in red, 20 year old student Ayano Tokumasu, is seconds away from throwing herself over the railing to her death.

George Mallory and Sandy Irvine in 1924, about to begin their ascent of Mount Everest. Nobody knows if they beat Hillary to the summit by three decades, or if they didn't. Either way, they didn't make it back down.

Great White playing at the Station nightclub, a few minutes/seconds before their pyro effects (which you can see in the photo) caused a fire that killed over 100 people.

The fan accepted the autograph and then took a seat in the lobby. He waited for several hours, read a copy of "The Catcher in the Rye" for a bit, then saw Lennon returning.
He approached him again, and shot him dead.

Marilyn Monroe, the weekend before she died.

Jimi Hendrix, less than 24 hours before he died.

Mark Twain was born two weeks after Halley's Comet passed by Earth. He made it his goal to see its return, saying "I came in with Halley's Comet. It is coming again next year. The Almighty has said, no doubt, 'Now these are two unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together.'"
Here he is, being carried outside to watch the comet return. He died the next day.

Harris' journal entry for Mother's Day:

Page from Harris' journal. He was the driving force of the attack, the other was much more passive. Harris sketched a diagram of the school's cafeteria and marked potential spots where he would later plant propane bombs concealed in backpacks. The marks on the side are his minute-by-minute estimates of how many people were in the cafeteria. He timed the bombs for 11:17, as that was the moment he figured the cafeteria was most crowded. Neither of the cafeteria bombs detonated. If they had, the death toll would likely have been counted in hundreds, as there was a good chance the ceiling would have collapsed and the library would have come down on top of the cafeteria. Fortunately, bombs are difficult and this teenager wasn't very good at making them.

One of the most disgraceful crimes in Australian history was the torture-murder of Anita Cobby by five ferals. Here is one of them, Gary Murphy, being arrested with piss running down his legs. He knows the Australian public's depth of feeling about the crime, and what is to come.

Gary's brother Michael arrives at the police station.

Soon after being arrested, Michael Murphy was attacked in prison by a group of inmates. They beat him up, held him down on the floor, then stuck a plastic tube up his ass. Into this tube, they inserted a length of barbed wire. Then they withdrew the tube.

The next time you get a bit down about your poor choices, or you think you're not in a great spot or you should be doing better - hey, at least you're not Michael or Gary Murphy.

I always found the Sylvia Likens story disturbing. It's stuck with me since I watched the movie "the girl next door." (No, not that one)
This story really sucks and has plagued my thoughts since discovering.


Sylvia Likens (January 3, 1949 – October 26, 1965) was an American teenager who was tortured and murdered by her caregiver, Gertrude Baniszewski, many of Baniszewski's children and several of their neighborhood friends. This abuse incrementally lasted for three months before Likens died from her extensive injuries and malnourishment on October 26 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

This photograph captures Ötzi’s 5,300-year-old well preserved body at the moment of its discovery in an alpine glacier together with his hunting tools, weapons and other accouterments offering valuable insights into the way of life of copper age communities in Europe, the Ötzal Alps-1991 (Italian-Austrian border).

An extensive examination including computed tomography scans of the naturally mummified corpse have shown an arrowhead embedded in the back under the left scapula.

The arrow wound and other violence-related injuries are clear evidence for a violent neolithic clash, to which Ötzi fell victim.

Calgary TV station runs a parenting segment, and accidentally uses a photo of family annihilator Chris Watts with the pregnant wife and daughters that he murdered a matter of weeks (or less) after the photo was taken.
