The people elect a representative.

If they don't like how that representative represents them, then they elect a different one.

Once a representative is sworn into office, it's not governing by popular consensus. States don't conduct referendums and send the results to their senator to rubber-stamp. Barring illegal conduct, until election day he or she is not bound by the will of their constituents in any way.

But they ARE bound by the Constitution. All of them are, first and foremost. That's why the literal first thing that every single official in the nation does in office, is pledge to respect, abide by and defend the Constitution. That's why no individual's powers supercede it. That's why no lawmaker can pass a bill or a law that the Justice Department finds to violate it. The first duty - always - is to the Constitution.

That's just how it works.

That's why the Republican Party's conduct is so egregious.

When the topics of discussion you bring up are not germane to the discussion me not answering them only means I've no interest in participating in bad faith conversations.

Out of curiosity, if you believe an elected officials duty is to protect the constitution. How do you rationalize passing laws, amending the constitution, or even having elections at all?

There is nothing to rationalise. It contains the instructions for its own amendment. This is not a genuine question.

Are you still saying that voting to remove Cheney from her position for refusing to lie about the election result, is patriotic and pro-democracy?

This isn't a discussion about how John Lee Pettimore thinks things should be - it's a discussion about how things are. How I rationalise it has no bearing at all on how it is. There is nothing relevant to answer - it's a sidetrack leading to nowhere.

And of course, you dishonestly edited out some of my post, where I said that there is nothing to rationalise anyway, because the means of amendment, passing laws etc is contained in the document.
