- Twenty-five states are ending federal unemployment benefits (including an extra $300 a week) ahead of their official expiration on Sept. 6. Their governors are trying to encourage recipients to look for jobs.
- A dozen already did so over the past two weeks.
- Yet job searches are muted in those states, according to an analysis from website Indeed.
Ohio announced in mid-May that they'd be stopping the payments at the end of June. I've had more applicants this past week than I've had in the last 6 months.
Reporting that it has had little impact is both premature and flat out wrong.
There's a huge shortage of lorry drivers over here. Some companies are asking the government to use the army to ship their produce across the country.

President Biden received a 56 percent approval rating in a recent Fox News poll.
I don't know what the fuck a lorry is, but if your gov't is handing out free money - yes, they could be to blame.
And Biden isn't to blame for what we have here in the States. It started when Trump was in there. Biden just needs to stop it. When you have some states denying free federal assistance for their constituents, it's pretty obvious that the Fed has over-reached and it's having a negative impact- regardless of what they say at their pressers.
It is certainly legitimately worrying that he appears so ancient, decrepit and incoherent.

In a few months we should see a clear picture of what works and what harms the economy with red states ending unemployment while blue continue it for a few more months. It’s like an experiment being played out in front of our eyes.
It's interesting. That's for sure.
I'm just glad to finally be getting applicants again. It's been a ROUGH year. But for the workers, they are looking at higher starting pay and $1000 signing bonus if they last 9 months. ($250 at 3rd month; $250 at 6th month; $500 at 9 months)
We've had to raise prices as we already operate at tight margins, but for the workers I guess you can count it as a win.
If that's accurate that's completely fucked.
Unless they're moving away from a debt based economy we'll never see a clear picture. As it stands now they're basically going to keep giving out free money until they can figure out a magic bullet.
