I would say some of both
Vaccine seems a bit ineffective obviously
Testing has never really been legit (speaking of PCR testing)

Having the majority of a country, state, or city's population vaccinated isn't stopping a resurgence/spike, tons of evidence on this now.

Places here with Vax rates in the 70% range are doing just the same type of spike as Texas with it's 30% tax rate.

Masks are required again here indoors as of friday. We got a whole 6 weeks without masks here since July '20 ...yay!


This type of vaccine may be creating variants that are more dangerous to the vaccinated(after their vaccine protection fades away) and unvaccinated...I think that is the elephant in the room that is being ignored currently.

Thanks for posting, I wanted to read that when the story broke, but today has been a shitshow.

The main takeaway is nowhere in that letter are the words "children" and "health" next to each other. The Florida Department of Education's stance is to appeal to parents' "freedom", not protect the childrens' health.

Having said that, apparently, mask mandates are allowed by school districts with the provision that parents do not need to submit a doctor's exemption to allow their children not to wear a mask. Broward et al are simply not letting children in without a mask- I'm not sure if they're giving masks out to unmasked, but their stance is "If you want to get into this school building you can wear a mask or eat a dick". Which is in line with my personal thinking an common sense known all the way back to the 1918 pandemic.

As I mentioned in another thread, for DeSantis to pick THIS HILL to die on is a terrible political strategy. Teachers and children will get sick and die. Parents like hearing they have freedom, but they really just want to be told what to do- and when their kids get sick and they have to stay home to take care of them, or the kids die, the parents are going to blame DeSantis for "letting their kids go to school unmasked" and they'll say "why didn't you stop this?"

I really and truly don't know what these governors are thinking.

They have had to wear masks, yes. It is simply a continuation of what the county has been doing since allowing kids to return for in-person learning.

...also, I went to check FL numbers and, surprise: "On June 4, Florida began announcing county cases once a week on Fridays. The state no longer releases deaths by county"

If someone has gone 18 months without catching covid, and is actively trying not to catch it, they're more likely to continue not catching it, than they are to come down with it.

i don't think it's the school administrators place to mandate behavior, even if that behavior is the only one that makes sense. I'd rather they put all the unmasked kids in the gym and stream the respective lectures to their phones or laptops, or some other solution that incentivizes self-preservation.

Putting unmasked kids in a gym sounds like segregation haha.

Mandating behavior is kind of a disingenuous way of describing their actions. They're mandating safety.
