In a similar vein, I once did health care for an offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. I asked him about Barry Sanders, he said what you saw on Sundays was only a shade of what he could do on the practice field, talked about his hands and vision and pure athleticism. Gave me the impression that elite athletes are more awesome than we generally know.
He was so amazing. My favourite football player. Big Dummy @Chugging Cody’s Cream is a huge Sanders fan. I was lucky enough to be living in a Canadian city right by Detroit for his prime years and I watched a lot of his games. He was so explosive. It would look like he was running into a dead end, and then he would just do a little cut back, and everything would open up for him. He tried to break open every run. He was exciting to watch everytime he touched the ball because he would try to score a touchdown with ever run. Scrambling like a madman trying to make something happen. He seemed just as fast running laterally as he was running forwards. He just about always made the first tackle miss and every play seemed like he was close to breaking a couple tackles and going for a huge run. He was so dangerous. The defence was always just trying to contain him.

Actually that is a really good statement. Classy, dignified, full of love and respect for him, and doing a good thing for society. Athletes set the tone socially in a more significant way than people realise.

??
Agreed, with the exception that IMO people are pretty aware of the influence of celebrity in general. It's why they're celebrities, people want what they have, so they're listened to. Kanye.

So many times. It was always thrilling to watch those wheels spinning as he found a path the cameras couldn't see. I'll bet it was a nightmare having to cover him.
