It is negligent anywhere, criminal or not.
it absolutely is not negligent.

actors specifically go on to the set on the condition that they are not responsible for knowing the firing state of the weapon.

they are not responsible for the firing condition, nor are they responsible for any discharge of the weapon.

After the Crow incident the rules changed and you aren't supposed to discharge blank guns at people either.
they are not responsible for the firing condition of the weapon.

they are not responsible for anything that happens when they pull the trigger.
Alec, as an actor, was operating within the safety rules of the movie set and was in no way negligent in the discharge of the weapon or in where the weapon was pointed.

"Cold Gun" means no blanks.

Tell the court where Alec touched you.

lolwut?

i'm saying Baldwin didn't do anything negligent, based on the facts as I understand them.

what have I written that makes you think there's an emotional skew to my perspective?

source?

he was handed a gun by an armorer and a production assistant who said "cold gun".

what safety protocol did he violate in the shooting?
Covid protocol most likely
I can't turn a blind eye to such an offense

no it is not.

he specifically outsourced that responsibility to other people. No actor is responsible for knowing the manual of arms for the firearms they handle as actors.

the firing condition of the gun is not his responsibility.

look up the word "negligent", and tell me how it applies to this situation.

failing to take proper care in doing something.
In handling any firearm, proper care is to verify the status of it yourself even when you watch someone else do it in front of you. That is not a responsibility that can be outsourced or delegated. Actors are suppose to be trained the basics of firearm safety for the gun(s) they need to handle for the movie.

not on a movie set.

no actor is responsible for verifying the firing condition of any weapon.

no matter what safety or handling training they've received.

negligent: failing to exercise the care expected of a reasonably prudent person in like circumstances.

no actor is expected to know or verify the firing condition of any weapon on set. It's really that simple.
It was not Alec Baldwin's responsibility, in any way, to check if the firearm was loaded with live rounds, blanks, or dummies.
Never.

mysticmac @mysticmac - look at this way.

if the armorer and assistant hand you weapon and say "Cold Gun", you have verified the condition according to the safe handling rules on a movie set.
