More that Russia finds those in alignment with their causes to disrupt enemies/frenemies and boosts them.

Russian bot farms greatly amplified farage and Brexit. It's of no surprise since farage and Putin share a hatred of the EU for very different reasons. But it's a common goal. So thumb on the scale in one of the ways that Russia is most effective.

You might say well that's fine and dandy as it's just Russian interests being pushed by Russia, but also it probably doesn't really feel good if you're inside of Britain and have a Russian propaganda campaign pushing your domestic issues artificially one way covertly in order to weaken your alliances with allies.

Isn't this what we all talk about the CIA being morally corrupt for doing? I see it as the same.

Most of the people on this site are very fine with the CIA meddling in every other countries business. The handful of people who aren't are accused of being "contrarians" or believing "Russian talking points".
